Quote:There is immense value beyond religion in posting the Ten Commandments. It's a reminder that there was a society that got by on only ten laws.

Today the total printed text of just the Federal laws would fill a large building. It has gotten so bad that every person commits a Federal crime every day (and probably a state crime too).

There is zero value in it.
Quote:We should tear down the USSC building immediately. I have no idea what those people were thinking putting all those damn religious icons and people up there. Like stupid religion has or ever had a place in our society.

This breaks it down for you quite nicely, including comparing the difference between the Alabama case and what is depicted on the Supreme Court building.

I never said religion is stupid, or our laws were formed with no basis in our religious history. Apparently you are one of those who like to fabricate persecution from air.

What is it hurting?

Did I miss the clause in the Bill of Rights that says we have a right not to be offended?
Being offended, imo, is stupid. Saying, "That offends me," or any variation thereof, is just a chicken poo way of making the situation someone else's problem, either by attempting to gain the favor of a few people who'll continue the fight for you or by coercing the person who caused the situation to exist to self-censor in the future. News flash: it doesn't work. Claiming offense, especially in the social media age, does nothing but attract a few like-minded whiners who sit around and stroke each other's ego about how right they all are without affecting any change.

When you're feeling "offended", the correct answer is almost always to ignore it and get on with life. People are inherently stupid, and they say stupid things. If I tried to force the issue on everything I found uncomfortable or "offensive", I'd never have time for a life of my own. Such is the curse of the social media age. Everyone has an opinion, and the vast majority of opinions are not going to agree with yours. Lots of people consider their opinions on key topics to be fact, and why bother arguing with someone like that?

Once in a great while, something bugs me enough that I'll engage head-on. Once I realize that challenging someone's "facts" with my own opinions, even with reasoned argument and examples, is just going to give me a concussion from banging my head against the wall over and over again, I usually go back to option one. It's much more fun and more efficient to spend 30 seconds laughing at someone privately than it is to waste hours on end arguing with them publicly after it's clear that their opinions will not change and are not open to debate.

You small government guys sure like to spend tax payers' dollars on stupid crap. Instead of paying for a stupid statue and the inevitable lawsuit, why don't we just act like Americans?

Isn't spending a ton of money on a stupid statue then spending tons more on a lawsuit a pretty American thing to do?

Nothing. I just said there is no value in it. You are making something out of my response that was not there.

You make a good point.

I didn't pay for it.  Tax dollars are being wasted on a court battle over it.  Probably more than what it cost to erect said statue.

This quest by proggies to NOT be offended is an expensive business, but people with thin skin must be recognized.

I was simply asking you a question.  Let's talk about making something out of nothing.

Like I said, you thin skinned progressives.......

And yet you flip your lid when I petition my lawmakers to display sharia law in our courthouses.

Huge difference between sharia law and The Ten Commandments.
Quote:And yet you flip your lid when I petition my lawmakers to display sharia law in our courthouses.
First off, please show where I've ever even come remotely close to "flipping my lid" over Sharia law in our courthouses.  Nothing like lobbing false accusations/strawmen out there as a debate tactic.

You've done a thorough job of making yourself look pretty foolish/ignorant in this thread.

You conservatives love to project your own failings.

I said nothing about being offended. You did. I also gave you a simple answer to your question but as usual you simply must be angry about something and attempt to bully people. Tell me again how thick your skin is there buddy.

By saying the Ten Commandments are Christian? I'm sorry but have you guys started to discount the first half of your holy scripture?

Also I was only kidding about sharia law. What I'd really like available in our courthouses is some literature from the Church of Satan. FBT I'm sure is on board, after all, who is it hurting?

Good stuff right there.

Let's look at the news over the past week.

Jerry Seinfeld says he won't do shows on college campuses anymore because there's always going to be someone who howls that they're offended by any material he may present.  He's not the first comedian to say such things, and not a single one of them who has indicated as such would be considered conservatives.  In each case, it's the politically correct environment fostered by progressives that has forced them to change the venues where they do their shows.  Those who were offended weren't conservatives projecting their failings.  They were a bunch of liberal college kids who think they somehow have the right to NOT be offended, so they demand it.

We saw the same thing recently when a couple of colleges caved to liberal student groups who were once again offended by a movie, American Sniper.  They found it offensive for Muslims and protested the free screenings on their campus.  Of course, the movie was at or near the top of the box office when it was first out there, so everyone had seen it....except for the liberals who were too busy being offended by what they'd been told the movie was about by other ivory tower elite liberals in the media who were equally offended.

The comment about being offended wasn't directed specifically at you, but to liberals in general.  Funny how you took offense though.

Careful, you might "offend" some of our liberal friends on the board here by making a blanket statement.

One of my favorite quotes of all time.

"It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.”

I've read it. It makes no difference. Those are religious figures no matter the context and we should tear them down else they threaten the wall of separation. And they offend me so that's all that really matters.

I could post one of any of a dozen videos of Bill O'Reilly being "offended" in a very loud and ape-like fashion here, but I won't bother because the people who really need to get the point would probably respond to it by saying, "Well, he's right."
