If the staff leaves Fowler at DE and Jack goes to MLB which I think he will this year, we need another strong side LB.  Who are your guys Dave could possibly target in the mid rounds?  Alex Anzalone has the potential to be a star if he can stay healthy and the we can get him before the Pats do.  Would love it if he somehow falls to the 4th.  I highly doubt it though, most likely goes in the 3rd.

First of all, why do you think Myles Jack will move inside this year? Paul Posluszny did not look bad at all last season. Jack kept the starting job after Dan Skuta returned from injury, which tells us who plays better on the strong side. I only see Jack moving inside if Poz gets hurt.

"Get him before the Pats do." Well, there are other teams that pick between our third and fourth round selections. All 31, in fact. I would be more worried about teams that are desperate for OLB upgrades.

Alex Anzalone's health risk is probably not any greater than another player's would be.

If they move Jack to MLB they can put Poz at SAM.

Poz will never play Sam.  He would get picked on severely by the TE and faster RBs in the passing game

There is a reason Poz never played Sam in Jacksonville. Mike is his natural position and where he is most comfortable at.
I'd bet that if they move Jack to MLB - SAM will be played by Skuta, Poz or maybe even super-longshot Marcus Rush.

I don't see a guy that only plays 20 or so snaps a game being some big priority in the draft or free agency given the other needs on the roster.

I also doubt they go drafting a SAM LB before they really know if Jack is ready to play the middle and take on the responsibilities it entails. I expect they'll want to see him do it in camp/preseason before making that commitment.

If Jack did go inside(where he should be starting) then skuta would play sam.

Im sure he will to start out but he is not the future and if the value is there Skuta isnt going to make it where we don't draft a guy because we have him.

Players we draft in the mid rounds, the positions dont have to be some big priority.  If the value is there and one of the best players on the board is an OLB, I don't see Tom and Dave scratching that position off the list because it isn't some " big priority"

Eh. Maybe. I just don't see it happening.

If Caldwell thinks he can mine an upgrade at OLB in the fourth or fifth, that's cool I guess, but I'd much rather see him addressing other positions at that point in the draft.

Jack should not be starting at Mike. There is a reason he replaced Skuta as the starter at Sam.

He was drafted to be the future at MLB.  It's just a position that takes time to learn in the NFL.

And he didn't replace Skuta. They split snaps at SAM/OTTO.

My prediction:

WLB - Telvin Smith

MLB - Myles Jack

SLB - Dante Fowler Jr

LDE - Jason Pierre Paul

NT - Abry Jones

DT - Malik Jackson

RDE - Yannick Ngakoue

In pass rushing/nickel situations Fowler is moved inside/out and used as a chess piece.

Tom/Dave send Poz to a playoff caliber team for a mid to late round pick.

Possibly hasaan Reddick but I don't think we will be in a position to get him

He replaced Skuta as the starter. Did you somehow miss that part? I know they split snaps.

Skuta played 267 defensive snaps.  Jack played 239.  Who was labeled "starter" is irrelevant.   Skuta was still getting a large share of snaps in weeks 15 and 16 and a slightly smaller number in week 17.

Jack was never allowed to "take over" a dominant role.

Hopefully the new coaching staff will let Jack get more snaps.

I hope so too. But I hope he isn't limited to playing SAM.

Yes he should be. If he becomes the player he was drafted to be he offers more than Poz does in todays nfl. Poz was too good to take off the field which is why he replaced skuta, but Poz is in the twilight of his career and its time to let Myles get those valuable live reps.

Jack is probably a Poz injury away from playing in the middle.
