We're heading back into the gulf coast in the next couple of weeks to do some fishing again. Last month I was there I landed some mackerel, grunts, a grouper and a bonnet head.. Nice little haul. All caught on pinfish..

I'm about to take my kids fishing for the first time (6 and 8.)
Any advice or suggestions on what might make a good trip?
I'm used to lake fishing from private property in VA, so I'm less than novice at fishing NEFL. About all I know is I need a license (separate salt and fresh), but they don't. And I don't have access to a boat, either.
Any/all advice appreciated, especially with a sense of humor.

Since its the first time in NEFL, I'd recommend going to Brown's Fish Camp on Hecksher Drive. They have a couple of docks out back to fish from. Until you get the rigging understood, its' always nice to have a bait and tackle shop nearby. For lunch, they have a food truck out front. Across the street is an excellent, ultra-casual restaurant called Chowder Ted's. Both Brown's and Ted's are family owned and operated.
There are so many road side fishing spots from on Hecksher Drive.....Dames Point til' Amelia Island. Fishing the Nassau Sound between Big Talbot Island and Amelia Island is really nice; very nice fishing pier.
Good luck,

My sister, at a buck ten, took on a blue marlin that weighed 726 lbs and won after a 4 hour battle. No help or anything.

We no longer have fish out here.

I like to fish from the beach. It's cheap, and easy, and if you don't catch anything, you still get a nice day in a beautiful place.
I've had no luck whatsoever lately at actually catching any fish.
But some good spots are South Ponte Vedra, Hanna Park, and Little Talbot Island. I went to Little Talbot Island about a month ago, and it was gorgeous, and almost completely deserted. We quit fishing and walked about a mile on the beach without seeing another person. No people, no houses, just driftwood and beach. If anyone needs justification for having a state park system, there it is.

live shrimp on a jig head and test some creek mouths out... ive found high tide has the bait pushed farther up in the creeks and low tide is productive near the mouths of the creeks... most of the ones from beach blvd to the little jettie can be productive... also pablo creek is decent if u get your boat past the bridge and the bugs.... i caught a few flounder in the creek across from pablo as well and its a pretty short jog from beach marine in a boat.
lately ive been hittin a place called chickapit near little jetties... the big flat behind the island near the little jettie.... lots of reds in the creeks around it and the flat is good if the tide is up and water is relatively clear.
also ive heard about some trout down town near the bridges at night... i used a gulp molten shrimp on an 1/8 ounce jig head... seems to be trout candy.
if you are not useing live bait i would never leave home without these and some jig heads![[Image: Berkley-Gulp-Saltwater-2-Inches-Shrimp-M...olting.jpg]](http://outdoorshopping.com/image/data/Berkley-Gulp-Saltwater-2-Inches-Shrimp-Molting-Gulp-Sw-2-Inches-Shrimp-Molting.jpg)
cant give out my honey holes but i hope this helps

Quote:I'm about to take my kids fishing for the first time (6 and 8.)i used to go off of the east side of the jtb bridge but i think that illegal to park there now... pirates cove is some times produtive off the beach fishing... its before sisters creek on hecksure(or however you spell that road lol).... under the fulawarren(or acosta i cant remember, which ever is closer to the ymca) is good at night but can a little dicey to take you kids...little jetties isnt half bad if you go closer to the rocks...its hard to get consistency without a boat, but those spot should be pretty productive... other than that surf fishin is the way to go without a boat.

Take them to the pier in Jax Beach. They sell bait and there are bathrooms right there (not a bad idea with kids those ages). It's $4 for an all day pass which includes a license for the day. If they get bored they can watch the surfers.
My daughter caught a little shark there, about 16", the very first time in her life she put a hook in the water. Needless to say, she was thrilled.

Bunch of ponds and lakes around my house. Catch bream and bass all day. I'm not much into traveling anywhere to fish. I am good bringing some simple bait and tackle and getting after it for about an hour.
