"And when he gets to Heaven, to St. Peter will he tell, "another soldier reporting sir". I've served my time in hell."

Remember the fallen, freedom is not Free........

It really "grinds my gears" how so many people spend Memorial Day.  I've seen people proclaim "Happy Memorial Day" on social media sites as if this is a day of "celebration".  I personally refuse to have friends and family over for a "cookout".  I hate that this day supposedly "marks the first day of summer".  The thinking in our nation right now is truly sad.

You only have to see the tears of the children in the Veteran Cemeteries on Memorial Day to truly know what the day is meant for.

I addressed this on my Facebook page and several people tried to justify 'celebrating' this day. I just had to say, "To each their own" and let it go. You just can't tell people what they don't want to hear.
I spent the day alone, on my deck, reading the last pages of Unbroken. The thought of doing something fun never entered my mind.

Well as a 23 year Navy veteran (retired now), it wouldn't bother me one bit for people to celebrate in my honor if I had sacrificed my life for this country. We serve(d) for the people of this great country...and we know when we sign up exactly what we're getting ourselves into.

This.

I probably party even harder now that I'm out on this day, even though I pour out more than a bit for my fallen brothers.

To each their own I guess.
