This is a bad example. If you look at the entire context of The Wall album the lyrics are a huge part of the album.


Even that qoute from the teacher plays a part in the overall story of the album.

I never got this argument. If songs are so dumb, why don't we all just become musicians?

I really wasn't trying to use those lyrics as an example of bad lyrics. Actually those words aren't even lyrics. I'm guessing it was just sampling from a movie.


It was just a random posting to see if someone would post the other half of the audio sample "how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat." Pink Floyd, kings of abstract music that they were, have some pretty meaningful lyrics. And "The Wall" is a great work of art that is also a lesson in history and glimpse into the mind of someone having a psychotic episode.


I equate the topic in this post to comparing Abstract visual art versus Realism art. Abstract art allows the viewer to experience a part of the overall piece, and relate to it however they may. It may be nothing in form, but appeals in some way to them, or reminds them of something. The same is done with music. The listener may like the beat, or the bass, or maybe just 1 line in the song. And that is enough to make the music desirable to them. It's kind of like when kids are singing "We don't need no education". They don't even know what they are singing about, but they identify with that one line.


This is what art is. The people that did this study obviously have not taken into account old jazz music. Lyrically and musically.

I personally agree with those who think (most) music doesn't stack up to yesterday.

I love they song! It's weird I'm usually all country but every once in a while I hear a rap or whatever you call that song that just makes me want to dance stupid style and I like it.


The last one was that dr pepper commercial in the Super Bowl with the dancing moose and scuba diver haha that stuffs great!
