It was speculated for a while that he'd probably retire due to his concussion history.  He was being pressed before last season to consider it after suffering 3 concussions in the league that they're aware of.  He managed to get through last season without a concussion playing in all 16 games, but I guess he decided a scrambled brain wasn't how he wanted to spend the rest of his life, so he's getting out while he can.
