Why would that be? If I'm remembering right, Robinson was a spread QB while at Michigan under Rodriguez and never really ran the Read Option. Meanwhile, Marshall was running it just a few months ago. I get that Robinson probably has better speed than Marshall, but it's going to be a lot less of a time investment to get Marshall into that role than it would Shoelace.

Yeah, but Marshall will be working with the defense.  If they pull him off occasionally to work on offensive gimmick plays, they take away time with defensive coaches, effectively decreasing his value at the position that has to be his bread and butter if he is going to even make the team.

I guess it would be a Risk / Reward decision. How much reward do you get out of X amount of time cross-coaching Marshall versus Robinson. With Marshall, I see it as less risk, more reward. But that's coming from a fan's point of view that has absolutely no insight as to how the player's individual developments are... developing.

Marshall will make a nice scrub team offense and mimmick Cam Newton perfectly for week 1.


Thats his role for now. He dont have a prayer to make the team in my opinion. Not trying to be harsh on the kid at all.


But he will make a perfect candidate for our PS.

The spread option is just a type of option offense where the QB usually lines up in the shotgun. The read option is the main type of running play in any option offense and is the play that gave the option offense its name.

 

Robinson was a 4 year starter in an option offense. He has much more experience running the read option than Marshall and was much more effective when he did.

 

On top of that, Robinson has had time to adjust to the NFL and can line up in multiple positions helping add to the deception of the play.

 

Robinson would be hands down the number one option if they ever decided to run read option plays by someone other than Bortles.

If that's the type of career trajectory Marshall has as an undrafted free agent, I'd say he's done well for himself. Both of those guys were serviceable players for a couple of years.

Oh yeah, indeed. If he comes out with a solid few years in the league. I think he can as a free safety

1010xl interviewed Hurns a couple days ago and was asked what corner caught his attenton or so.He mentioned Marshall

Robinson ran some read option plays last year here.

Boldin made the transition at fsu tho... had 1700 receiving yards.. but to support ur argument, marshall was a cb at Georgia.

During one of Gus's latest OTA press conferences, he mentioned the depth and competition at CB, specifically naming House, McCray, Colvin, Gratz, and Reynolds from the top of his head.  Although he can learn and develop, Marshall was not in Gus's quick thought as a top contender.  I see Marshall as a practice squad player at this time, given the depth on the CB roster.

I seem to recall this as well.

Of all the major sports, the NFL, excluding a couple positions like QB, is the one where experience is almost irrelevant.  If you have the athleticism, you can walk on to the field and play.
