I am a Auburn fan as most of you know. I am sure you will have a lot of questions about Grant as I see now he is a Jag.He may be the fastest Jag of all time.I believe Tavien Banks back in the 1990's would have given him a good race.Corey Grant was a mystery at Auburn for the fans. He was a backup the last 2 years for the SEC's leading rushers.
His straight line speed is as fast as I have ever seen.He has very little wiggle though and can be brought down easy on sweeps. His body is massive and he looks like a Jones-Drew type body.He blocks well and can catch passes out of the backfield.He has never got in trouble and seems to be a smart kid.
So why a free agent? One of the biggest mystery players of all time at Auburn.He seems to have been pushed out of the game plan about mid-season last year for no reason.
On kickoff returns the gunners better start heading to the center of the field immediately because he will take the return right up the middle and be gone in 10 seconds for a TD.

Warjag. how much of the situation of Corey Grant being phased out in Auburn do you think was a reflection of the high quality rushing that Cameron Artis-Payne provided?
My gut feeling is all around Special Teams is Grant's ticket to the Jaguars or another NFL 53 man roster. W/o shining on Special Teams in the pre-season, Grant probably won't be given the opportunity in the regular season,
I love his speed, something that the Jags seemed to have been lacking in the backfield over the past few years. I'm assuming he will be the fastest person on the team now. Since you are familiar with him, where can you see him in the depth chart at the beginning of the season? Will he beat out others and prove himself to be a viable option, giving Yeldon a spell?

Yes CAP as we call Payne in Auburn was turning into a star as was Tre Mason the year before. They were also trying to phase in a 5 star Roc Thomas Freshman.
If Grant makes the Jags it will be by way of the special team route.
He will be a guy in camp that will bring down the house with his speed. There will be a ton of talk here believe me.He will have to improve tremendously to make this team though unless Auburn just had to many Running Backs(Imagine that)

I think he will be 5th string if you put it that way. Special teams will be his ticket though.
On a side note T.J Yeldon was a Auburn commit for 2 years and flipped to Bamma the last hour of recruiting. I have hated him (strong word hate but in this case true) for 3 years. Now I am back in love with him. Go figure!

In reality, Corey Grant will be competing against players not only at RB but at other positions as well. Grant may need to convince the Jags team brass that he warrants a roster spot over a player at another position.
If Grant doesn't land a roster spot at the start of the season, he would benefit greatly if the Jags or another team gave him a Practice Squad opportunity. That could set the stage for a 53 man roster opportunity later in the season or at least getting a contract for 2016.
I certainly would be interested in your opinion of how you believe CAP's career will go with the Carolina Panthers and were you surprised that he lasted to near the end of Round 5 ( pick # 174 )? At least he will be playing with former Auburn QB Cam Newton.
I saw a tweet from Mark Long that he was someone that Tony Khan wanted and pushed for them to sign as an UDFA.
Seems to me if he makes the roster he may return kicks over Greene
He'll only have a chance to make the 53 as a kick return specialist.

I wanted to bring this old post up. I was wrong about Grant. He has shown more moves than I can remember and am real proud of him.He still has a way to go though.We will see if he is a game day decision to play this week.
I watch a lot of college football and really do not remember him at Auburn.

If you watched any 2013 games which Auburn made the championship game he was the always the speed sweep guy. Gained almost 700 yards. Also 1 TD on kickoffs. He has never been used as punt returner guy because he does not have that quick move that punt returners need to get rolling.
Believe me though if he gets open NO ONE in the NFL will catch him.

With Marks, Branch, Lee, and maybe Gerhart injured, and lots of spare OL, I doubt Grant will be inactive this week.
Bradley said he's the kick returner. I am pretty sure that means he will be active.
