Quote:I would venture a guess that FS is between Brown and Sample now. Evans probably backing up Cyprien.

Amazing at this point last year, our FS position was up to Evans vs. Guy.

Good job Dave man!
Baking at a nice 325 right now
Quote:I think it was Gus that said that if we use Sample and Cyprien at the same time, then on any particular play, opposing teams will not be able to tell which one was going to be the SS and which would be the FS. That would be an advantage for our defense.

The combos can be interesting. Brown and Evans... Evans and Sample. Brown and Sample. Sample and Cyp.. Cyp and Brown. Craig Loston and Nick Marshall
Sample and 'Sip'.  We talking safeties?  ; )

haha!
Interesting takeaway from Gus' interview is his talk of Sample as being able to come up to the box. I think a lot of us, even fans of other teams, assumed that we'd be looking at a FS...a single-high safety at that due to how the Seahawks use Earl Thomas. It was the natural assumption. Even the signing of Brown, a speedy FS, gave this impression. But when Gus talks about Sample, he talked about having two safeties who can come up. That he prefers that teams don't know which one of them will.

This is an interesting comment by Gus. The Jags used a bit of Cover 3 last season, with Evans at FS. I think a lot of us felt this was out of necessity because Evans isn't the type you'd want if you're going to play cover 1. But hearing what he had to say about Sample makes me think that the decision to run more Cover 3 last season was by design and not out of necessity.

This would, of course, explain the selection of Sample as opposed to the other CB->FS prospects.

I think James Sample will fill the FS spot and if the Jags in the next draft find a stud can't miss FS, Sample can migrate to SS and fight for the SS since Cyprien hasn't lives up to the Kam Chancellor hype!!!

Cyp isn't really being used like Kam is in Seattle's defense, so the hype and comparisons to Kam should have ended after his rookie season.
To be fair, Kam Chancellor wasn't a beast until his third year. That was the year he started to make a name for himself, at least. I'm giving Cyp this year to show he belongs.
