Quote:Fair enough. I'm just trying to find a decent draftnik who said that. As for nfl.com and nfldraftscout I can't comment on how much time their analysts put in. I'd hope their reputations as good sources are warranted by diligent research, but can't say for sure. I hope it works out.

Well, Steve Spurrier isnt a draftnik, but he started AJ Cann for a bunch of games and trusted him in South Carolina's zone blocking scheme.
Nfl.com has gotten a lot better recently - especially this year. But they have had some terrible analysis in years past that were polar opposite of the player. I am talking low 4.3 receivers with remarks that they dont have deep speed.
Quote:Yep.  Beadles released now maybe?

Not yet. He can groom his replacement, then be demoted to backup.

If he plays like he did last year, there is a good chance Beadles is watching the games from the sideline this year.

If he plays like he did last year, he will be playing this year.

Then he will be on the sideline next year.

He played like poo.

If Beadles is starting week 2,, and you watch the dolphins line up Suh against him,,close your eyes... What will follow will be disturbing and viewer discretion will be advised.
I actually really like this pick. Would have loved to see a DB, but it's nice to see this team really committing to improving the offensive line, including bringing in competition for last year's prized free agent that played like an undrafted scrub.

If Cann beats Beadles for a starting job, does that officially bring Beadles into the Hugh Douglas/Jerry Porter realm of Jaguar free agent signings?

Enough with the initials already!  I want players with actual first names!

I'm of the philosophy that this is the way you should build you offensive line.  We should draft a player or two in round 2-5 that's on offensive lineman almost every year.  That way, you will always have big, young, fresh blood on the o-line that know your system.

Drafting one in the top 5 is ludicrous.

he didnt play like poo all year. sometimes he looked really good, some games he looked really bad. very inconsistent and i dont know why?

I love this pick, and as it turns out, it was an absolute necessity.

Everyone thinks we have this easy schedule.

Take a look at the DTs this team will face.

Week 1, Carolina-Star Lotuleilei

Week 2, Miami-Ndamukong Suh and Jordan Phillips

Week 3, New England-Malcolm Brown

Week 4 & 14 Indy-???

Week 5, Tampa- Gerald McCoy

Week 6 & 17 Houston-This is a little different.  Wilfork will play on the nose, and while this guy named J.J. Watt is technically a DE, many of his plays he ends up going against a G.

Week 7, Buffalo-Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams

Week 9, NY Jets-Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Leonard Williams

Week 10 Baltimore-Timmy Jernigan

Week 11 & 13 Tennessee

Week 12 San Diego-DE Corey Liuget often rushes over a G

Week 15 Atlanta-Paul Soliai

Week 16 New Orleans

That is a tremendous lineup of DTs that would challenge the best OLs.  We need size, ability, and depth in our interior three.

The Cann selection, in addition to Wisniewski, gives us all of that.

you dont draft a rookie guard because youre worried about the DTs youre gonna face this present year.... if we are counting on Cann to come in and stop these guys right off the bat, then we have a problem.

Huh?

You draft guards to block people.

More often than not, they are blocking DTs.

Cann appears to match up better against the power guys in that group than Beadles.

While generally you don't want to depend upon rookies to come in and start for you along the offensive line, this was a group that gave up over 70 sacks last year and could not run the ball consistently.  The interior part of the OL, including LG, was a part of the problem.

Cann is very much a candidate to start at LG.  He will likely have to block those guys.

What are we talking about here?

im saying you dont see the schedule and say "OH NO WE BETTER DRAFT A GUARD HERE OR WE ARE IN TROUBLE THIS YEAR!"

you dont rely on a rookie guard to come in and save your line THIS year.

ideally, you don't.

I think Beadles will begin as the started but Cann will move him to the bench as early as midway through the season.  He is just a better player overall.  He's also 23 and experienced in the SEC, it's not like we're getting a 20 year old rookie like we did when we drafted Luke Joeckel.

a rookie is a rookie. its beadles job to lose. beadles has the talent, he just needs to put it together on the field.

maybe cann lights a fire under him.

I agree.   You don't draft with an eye on the next season.   You draft with an eye on the next 5 to 10 years.

even if it was a first round pick this is the thought process the GM should have.

There were more poo moments than not poo moments. In the end, he was not good enough.

He might be my least favorite Caldwell signing. Stay away from Manning OL, generally.
