Quote:No. 6 pick Leonard Williams has shoulder issue

Jets No. 6 overall pick DE Leonard Williams is believed to have a shoulder issue that "might slow [his] development a bit."
Dr. David Chao also passed along a report Thursday night that Williams is believed to have labrum tears in both shoulders. That would obviously be an extreme cause for concern, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Jets don't believe Williams' shoulder problem is a "long-term concern." With RE Muhammad Wilkerson and LE Sheldon Richardson, the Jets can take it slow with Williams.

And that brings a whole new picture into light.
Without that shoulder injury, I'm sure he woulda been pick 3.. That said, Jags 100% made the right choice!!
This is not new news. They mentioned it during the draft last night, too.
Some teams considered it an issue, others did not.

True, and the Jags could very well be one of those teams who considered it an issue.
If the draft choice was between a very good player with shoulder issues and a pretty good player without shoulder issues, which one do you pick if you are the Jags GM?

I don't blame them, like Gus said they don't plan to be drafting this high again any time soon.

although odrick was likely signed before the jags knew about this so who really knows.
I thought there was a 51 % chance the Jags would draft Dante Fowler Jr. vs. 49 % with Leonard Williams, when not factoring in players that I thought were further down on the Jags draft board when considering who they might take at # 3.. Hence, I wasn't surprised by the team bypassing Williams. What shocked me was the Redskins passing on him at # 5.
Now that the shoulder concerns report has surfaced, at least now I can understand why Leonard Williams dropped. Having said this, I don't think the Jets will regret their decision on getting Leonard Williams at # 6.
Williams was not the pick at 3 because of the need of pass rusher. Not his shoulder. And possibly Fowler was #1 on the board for Dave all along.

Beng that I attended the draft last night and didn't listen to the radio that they give out to that has the feeds from NFL Network and ESPN feeds, I didn't even find out about report until reading knarnn's post 20 minutes ago. I'm probably amongst the last NFL fans to know about Leonard Williams' shoulder injury. With so much happening in the draft with all 32 teams, I expect to miss plenty of information in the next few days. If anyone has information that's might be of interest about one of the players and/ or decision making process, please mention it on the Forum if you have the time. In a few days, I hope to look at many threads to see what information I can find that I might have missed. Not to mention all of the opinions on the Forum. The draft coverage here is terrific!

Thanks to you and knarnn for your thoughts.
Unfortunately, I didn't take my camera with me. I have an old fashioned cell phone that probably won't take the best pictures. If I remember though, I will take a couple of pictures at the draft early this evening.

That was out there before the draft started. They were using that as an explanation as to why he was falling in the draft last night. Some teams had that information and felt there was enough concern to pass.
Also, they were talking on the radio this morning about the fact that he has a tendency to take plays off, and isn't as intense as some teams would prefer. One personnel guy called him a "hippie" when talking about his demeanor.
I think the Jags looked at Williams and Fowler and recognized the fact that Fowler was clearly motivated and he's a motor guy, and that nudged it his way.

Mayock mentioned it as soon as Williams' name was called. It seemed as if he was ready to use it to explain the drop.

I find Mike Mayock and Daniel Jeremiah the best or amongst the best draft analysts.
When Mayock was the analyst on Thursday Night Football, I thought he was the best in the business in that role as well. I was very disappointed when CBS took over the Thursday Night telecasts with Mayock no longer being in that role.

Agree. Mayock deserves some of the crap he gets, but he's still one of the best.
A lot of folks like Collinsworth (around here at least - I think it's Gator homerism, personally.)
I disagree. Not only do I find some of his analysis suspect, I find his delivery highly annoying. I'd rather Phil Simms.

obviously we dont get the privilege of interviewing these guys, but just watching the quick little questioning of fowler vs williams after they were picked. you could see the difference of intensity in those guys.
intensity is important in the game of football and that is just another factor in all of it.

Did you see those shoes the newest Jaguar was wearing when we went up on stage?
They were hard to miss.
