The facts are the facts. Whether you want to admit it or not, we all have benefited from our socialistic society.
Are there problems? No doubt. But you have to first live with the facts.
Now there can be discussions on whether we should adjust our bureaucracies that run our social programs. But it is my opinion that the programs are not at the heart of the problem...
There is a place for capitalism and the so called free market. But I don't think our society would benefit from privatizing and deregulation all facets of our public lives.
On that we agree, there aspects of society that require socialist programs and there aspects of society that require a free market. The bigger a society gets however the harder it becomes to manage the socialist parts of it.

and the more free the market gets the hard it becomes to keep it from spinning out of control. It's a tough balance with both.

that's a good point, both systems work best when on a smaller scale. I think that's a big reason why some of the European nations with even more "socialist" systems have had success then countries on larger scales like the USSR.

Yeah, that's true. But bear in mind, the bigger free market industry gets, the more important it is to ensure monopoly or other anti trust issues don't overtake that market.
It's a fine balance, that's due sure... you can't get rid of one or the other, for reasons I don't have time to describe... It's one of those things where the friction/conflict between government and business actually helps the society.
