The consensus has Leonard Williams as the best player in the draft.   That said, he really doesn't fill a need for the Jags.   So if we are confronted with the opportunity to draft him, it seems to me the best thing to do would be to trade down just a spot or two.   If we trade down with the Skins, for example, and pick up an extra say 2nd round pick, we would still wind up with either Fowler or Cooper.   The extra 2nd rounder would give us some ammo to move back up into the back end of the first round and get a player that unexpectedly drops.   This to me is the ideal scenario.

The draft pick value chart says dropping from #3 to #5 is worth a high second round pick.   We might throw back a 4th round pick to make the Skins feel better.

If we cannot trade down, we have to draft him.

But this is why trades happen, right?   You are faced with the best player left on your board, and he doesn't fill a need.   The ideal draft pick is when need and value intersect.   If you have the best player available, but he doesn't fill a need, trade down.  Get maximum value for the pick.

The Redskins traded 3 first round picks and a 2nd to go from 6th overall to 2nd when they drafted RG3 how do you figure that a #3 being traded for a #5 is only worth a 2nd round pick?

Just because the Redskins were idiots that year doesn't make it the norm.

Draft pick value chart.  #3 = 2,200.   #5 = 1,700.  #38 = 520.

RG3 was a QB.  That pumped up the value tremendously.   We won't be able to get that kind of deal.

That trade ruined that franchise for several years and is likely to never happen again.
lol

If Winston is sitting there at 3 we'll get some fantastic trade offers.

Thread title is confusing. Is this the draft order for the two picks before us, or is this your top three scenarios for the Jags?

Oh, man, I just noticed, I blew the title.

It should read,  1. Winston 2. Mariota.  3. Jags trade down.

That's pretty embarrassing.

I meant Winston goes #1, Mariota goes #2, then at #3 we trade down.

I dunno everyone swears the Bucs are taking Winston so I myself keep saying it but they could go with Mariota or take the best guy in the draft Williams

or who knows trade down...

but everyone just seems to agree its Winston

Titans could go several ways with the number 2 trading down, or drafting Williams if he is there or Fowler or Cooper or Mariota...

Hard to tell at this point which of the above will be gone but cant sleep on Andreas Peat... he is going to go in the top 10 I almost guarantee it... maybe top5.

A few gurus are comparing him to Jim Lachey...

Nice idea. I like Williams and I think he should be the pick and one could argue that he does fill a need as our d-line is recovering from injury and aging.  Also, the better d-lines in the league are a rotation of good/great players, not just a solid starting 4.  If the Jags do what you suggest, I'd have little problem with it though.  That extra 2nd rounder would be huge and we'd still likely be getting one of the premier players in the draft.
The suspense is killing me right now.

You had the title right to begin with.

Pick who's left of Mariota and Williams if you can't trade down ... and then trade the player.
