Quote:I don't see Caldwell trading down. He says his phone hasn't rang in regards to potential trades. So I guess that means he's not actively seeking a trading partner or he'd be calling people.
Atlanta has said they've put out feelers on moving both directions up and down to get an idea of cost. To me this means that Caldwell knows who he wants and if he's still available doesn't want to risk losing him in a trade down.
Isn't that cute. You actually believe him.
Gurley would be my choice at 8. If he passes at 8 he could go to the Dolphins, Vikings, and the Texans. We can wrap him up at 8, a legit RB.
Let's assume we also get ATLs 2nd round pick
#8 Bud Dupree (OLB) - Kentucky
2nd round w. extra ATL pick -- MLB Erik Kendriks (UCLA) and WR Phillip Dorsett
3rd round - RB Duke Johnson
Notes:
Dupree is from Macon GA and has all everything but the "overhype" factor. "First-team all-state in Georgia, where he was a four-year starter at tight end and a three-year starter at defensive end. Had 10 receiving touchdowns and 10 sacks as a senior. Also won a state title in basketball."
Kendriks is the solid MLB that can also cover TEs and decent vs Slot WRs.
Dorsett & Johnson - Miami QBs have sucked the past 2 years. This resulted in Duke being the 1 man show. Duke gained yards despite defenses loading up the box and Dorsett ran routes with Gabbert equivalents at QB -- very similar to what the Gators experienced during the Muschamp era.
If the Jaguars trade out of the 3rd overall spot they should expect to get;
three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick which the Redskins made for the 2nd overall pick from the Rams or something similar as that set the bar.
I doubt Atlanta would do all that but at least three first round picks meaning this year's 8th, and next years and the following years first round pick seems reasonable I would be okay with that to drop back to the 8th spot in which the Jaguars can sign Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

If you live in a community where the houses are valued at $300,000 and 1 idiot pays $500,000 for a comparable house in the neighborhood, the value of all the homes don't go up to $500,000. Dan Snyder was an idiot for falling in love with RGIII and mortgaging the farm on 1 player. Please see Ditka (Saints) for the Ricky Williams trade if you need another example of the "exception" vs the "norm"
I'd take an additional high 2nd round pick because I don't think there is much of a difference in talent between #3 and #8

This is how I see it. If we moved down with Atlanta I would only expect to pick up a 2nd and maybe a late round pick at the most.

Caldwell could have been telling the truth. Maybe his phone doesn't ring. Maybe it plays a tune or something.

That is solid thinking. The question is, which do you prefer, the #3 pick, or pick #8 plus pick #42? There is a real good chance you could see someone fall to pick #8 that you would have no problem picking at pick #3. OR, if you really want someone like Todd Gurley, or Kevin White, and you think pick #3 is too early, then pick #8 plus pick #42 is very preferable. Because you get the guy you wanted anyway plus pick #42.
Why stand on principle and say moving from pick #8 to pick #3 should be worth more than pick #42? The correct question is, what is preferable to you, in your particular situation, in this draft.

I believe you get the guy you want no matter where you at in the draft.. Its a reason we are the #3 pick in the draft and we deserve a top player for it..Going to #8 is a risk because you risk losing 5 potential players that you like that could be impact players for the team.
