The Obamas Have Spent Over $44,351,777.12 In Taxpayer Cash On Travel

The Obamas have spent over 44 million dollars in taxpayer money on travel and vacations. Some are even calling him the “most well-trvaeled, expensive” president in our nation’s history.

As Americans head off for the long holiday weekend, let’s take a look back at some of the president’s holiday spending.

Our president vacations a lot — we’re talking $44,351,777.12 worth of “a lot,” with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer.

I doubt that figure is wrong. Those 747s are bloody expensive, especially since they have two of them kept on permanent standby.

Other than that this is pretty weak sauce. They use the word vacation but a lot of the money was spent on official international trips, not holidays.

That's for Air Force one from the New York Times

But officials said the vast bulk of Mr. Obama’s expenses, including the $179,750-per-hour cost of Air Force One, are simply the price of the presidency and the communications and security required for a 24-hour-a-day commander in chief.

Obama has traveled more then most presidents no doubt, but of all the things I have issues with that's probably the least of my concern. Hell to be honest I wish he spent MORE time on vacation, it's the crap he does when he's working in Washington I have a problem with.
Wonder how much of that is money we pay to the secret service whether the President is in Washington or not.

Also pretty sure that the President is responsible to pay for housing, food, etc.. for his family. At least according to a Washington Post article:

Presidents pay for their own and their families’ lodging, food and incidentals while on vacation, which may be why they generally prefer to stay at properties they own, as guests of wealthy friends or at the official presidential retreat at Camp David.

But since presidential vacations are always working vacations, taxpayers cover what it takes to keep the commander in chief working. Lodging and meals are an extra cost, but taxpayers pay the salaries of White House staffers and Secret Service agents whether the president stays in Washington or not, so a presidential vacation does not significantly increase personnel costs.

The biggest additional expense is the use of Air Force One and the support aircraft needed to haul all the equipment and ground transportation the president needs. The Congressional Research Service estimated that the cost of operating Air Force One is nearly $180,000 per hour. Ultimately, a presidential vacation can cost taxpayers an additional $1 million or considerably more than if the president had just stayed put in the White House. How significant this is within a $3.5 trillion federal budget is something voters can decide for themselves.

This administration is probably not footing the bill for the entourage they're toting around with them. When the first lady goes on a luxury excursion with friends and family, makes one public appearance on the trip, and it's called an official visit. We pick up the tab.

Keep in mind that when Air Force One leaves DC, there's a 2nd plane that trails it in the event there are any mechanical issues. When the Obama's go on vacation to places like Hawaii or Martha's Vineyard, they have a tendency to take separate jets, each of which needs a trailer, so you can have 4 jets flying from DC to Hawaii or New England for a royal vacation. That's why it costs so much to operate Air Force One and the rest of the presidential jet fleet. Everything is doubled.
