Im not gonna lie this is hard decision at GM but i think you keep it simple.. Gurley was the best college player before he got hurt last year.. Easily.. I know it will be hard to pass up on guys like Cooper or Beasley or Fowler or Williams..

But lets just think about the immediate impact factor... We have some young studs at Wr so Cooper imo is not a drastic improvement..but he would be nice to have.. But this years draft deep at Wr soo we can wait. This years draft is deep at the End/Leo position. Remember Telvin Smith draft position last year..And Williams I don't think start if we draft him.. We deep on the interior line.. Alualu,Hood,Oderick,Marks,Miller..

Gurley will provide instant game changing ability... That of which we haven't seen in a long time... Think about it, when is the last time you seen a guy run 70 yds for a td.. I'm just saying ..
Wouldn't be mad at the pick. He is gonna be a good one.
If we trade down far enough Ill go for him or trade back into the 1st and get Gurley. I want Gurley tho, but would take Ajayi as a 2nd option.

Cooper and Gurley are probably the two guys I'd most like to end up with in the 1st. Both very high talent players.
What letter does the bad word start with?
How many of you out there are Gurley men?

lol i just put asteriks !
I would be happy about it, he would prob make a bigger impact on the team and Bortles more then any player we can draft

If we draft him, I want him to wear number 25. My favorite number and I do love running backs. Would love to get a jersey with my favorite number on it and is a good player. Problem with the number is Peyton Thompson has the number currently.
If we trade back to the late teens, yeah, I'd be all in favor of this pick. At three? Hell no, and he won't be there at the top of round two.

Really? That's your last word?

Yo boy has been hitting the pipe again.

Todman went for 62 last year. Not that I disagree, but I thought that I would throw that in there.
Not at 3.
Not taking a RB first round. So unless he slides and we trade up back in the first it's likely not happening.

To the original post...

Caldwell's actions and words seem to indicate that WR, specifically the slot, is a need that the young WRs are not filling adequately.  I think Cooper or some other WR in this draft can provide a significant upgrade.  The logic to wait as the WR position is deep in the draft could also be said for the RB position.

Although there are a number of potentially starting caliber Leos in this draft, they will likely go very fast (most in the 1st round), as teams have a high demand for players that can impact the opposing QBs. I would not assume that you can fill a Leo role by waiting until the 5th round, where Telvin Smith was drafted last year as a WLB.  Tom Brady was a 6th round pick, but I would not wait until the 6th round if I was in need of a starting franchise level QB.

If Dave was to draft Leonard Williams, I have no doubt that Williams would start, or be in a strong rotation.  He is much better than Hood or Alualu today, and has pro bowl upside.  Remember also that Marks and Miller will likely have limited snaps early in the season as they will just be returning from the knee rehabs.

I do agree that Gurley has playmaking ability, which this team needs more of.  I am just not sold that RB is the right pick with the 3rd pick in the draft.
