Quote:I don't care who commits a crime, the sex, race, orientation none of it matters to me.  They committed a crime, they are a criminal, not a transgender not a black person not a white person.  They are simply a criminal. When you start attaching things to criminal like transgender, black, gay you entice an entire community to defend them even when they are wrong.  If we want to stop stereotyping people maybe a good place to start would be by not labeling them.

A person committed a crime. this happens everyday..

Many people need to learn this lesson.

I completely agree. I was going with the not judging people because of their transgender status or whatever status people are labeled, whether self identified or not. The status of a person seems to be a hot button issue. Sometimes people need actual mental health care as opposed to prison. And I mean inpatient lockdown type, not the "live your life how you want and check in with us once a week."

Problem is they shutdown soooo many insane asylums in a process called deinstitutionalisation... and now to steal from reddit

Starting in the 60s a combination of factors led to the closure of many mental institutions. Books like One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and a series of scandals (such as the Kennedy lobotomy) turned the public against asylums. At the same time government funding of mental institutions was cut in half so as to cover the Social Security liability. Finally improvements of drugs meant that less people needed to be under constant care.

The effects of this can still be seen on the streets today. The biggest cause of the increase in homelessness from 60 years ago to today is the closure of mental institutions. The vast majority of homeless have some sort of mental illness, and would have been in an institution in the 1950s.

but ya we need them back.
Doug Stanhope has a good comedy bit about we treat people with mental illness's.

Basically says that there are two types, there's the people with down syndrome or severe learning disabilitys who are looked after by everyone and made sure that they are safe and well, as they should be.

The second group is full of people with with severe mental disorders like psychosis, schizophrenia etc etc who would be labeled as "crazy". These people often spend most of their lives on the fringes of society or on the street. Just because their illness is more difficult to deal with than someone with down syndrome, autism or a severe learning disability.

He says it way funnier than this of course but shows the double standard we have with ill people.

Good lord, did you post this with a straight face? Do you even read what you post in this forum?
Quote:How so RJ?  If you are born with boy parts, you are a male.  If you are born with girl parts, you are a female.  Just because you don't feel like whatever gender you are, doesn't change the fact that that's what you biologically are.

The ignorance was characterizing one person's actions as indicative of the whole (from the person who says others must learn not to stereotype).

The ignorance was fixation on biological facts as indicators of one's gender identity.  Outside of procreation, society has determined gender roles, not biology.

The subject of the OP who committed crimes and attempted self-mutilation was an anomaly, not just of transgendered people, but of society in general.

Me too man. Nobody comes close to him for me.

You should listen to his podcast he does with his friends in Arizona. Madness.
Sometimes I get PM's from certain folks on the forum, as we all do. Sometimes I'll get PM's from folks who've opened up to me about being gay (because I'm failry open) I've even have had another someone open up about being transexual. They may even be someone who isn't a so called snowflake, to say the least! People come in all shapes, sizes, flavors, etc. I'd never, ever name anyone as this was personal and I appreciated their trust. Stop judging people and trying to put them in a box.
Absolutely...well said/typed.
