I think this is the best scenario.  There would still be a good pass rusher or WR there at #6.  Plus, we would likely have the Jets 2nd round pick (37), giving us 2 picks in a row near the top of the 2nd round.  Dave could package these to move up fairly high into the first round if he wanted, but I think the value is in the 2nd and 3rd rounds this year.  We could come away with Vic Beasley + a WR, or Kevin White + a good RB for the #3 pick.

No thanks.. Gimmie Williams or Fowler..
Trading down with NYJ would be the absolute ideal scenario. We could get Beasley plus we could potentially packages the two 2nds to move back into the first to get Gurley or Gordon.

But the thing is, even if we trade down to #6, we might still get Fowler.

If the Jets trade up with us for one of the QBs, that would probably mean the draft went: Winston, Williams, Mariota.   Then you have the Raiders and the Redskins and then us.    The Raiders take a WR, so you have the Skins and then us, and Fowler is still on the board.   Who do the Skins take?   Beasley?   Whoever is left among Cooper and White?   We get Fowler.    At a minimum, we get a choice of maybe Kevin White or Vic Beasley?

For the Jets' 2nd round pick, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Great post The Real Marty.

That trade would work out for both sides.

NYJ gets their QB, we grab an extra early second (still great value on the board).

I think you are right, this would be a best case scenario.

Just in case this guy was our pick at 6.

I know a lot of people don't like this Sport Science stuff. But i find the comparisons pretty interesting.

I'm a big Fowler guy.

I hope he is our selection at 3. And I would hate to lose out on him.

HOWEVER...

with this scenario, ending up with Beasley wouldn't be too bad. (Some say he is the better edge rusher)

We get our edge guy, and extra picks. Make a move on Gordon... Maybe make a move for Perriman.

And like the poster above stated. Washington could take a WR, top Oline guy, or Beasley (to replace Orakpo who left in FA iirc)

I like it...

as a second option to taking Fowler at 3.

This scenario only happens if the Titans don't trade out, or don't draft Mariota.

If Mariota goes #2 overall, 95% chance we stay put.

One of the better trade downs Ive seen. I still would hope for more but thats me :-p

Not totally true. If Leonard Williams is available we could potentially field trade offers on him as well.
According to draft value charts(for what you put into them), the Jets would have to give up their #6 pick, as well as their 2nd round and 4th round pick for this trade to be even.

Why would you not just take him instead?

That would be like saying the Colts would have considered a trade for Luck.  I disagree with him, I'd say the chance of an acceptable trade offer would be closer to zero.

Maybe because Caldwell isn't as high on him as this message board is? It wouldn't be the first time this board over evaluates a prospect.

That's not even close to the same thing, Luck was a once in a generation type player at the most important position. LW is a very good player, but not a slam dunk elite player that we can't afford to lose out on.

Considering most folks still have him the highest rated non-QB in the draft and have all along...

I wouldn't worry about that.  Personally, I'm not.

Simply put, there's no reason to prefer anyone to him if he's available.  There's no one close to his talent if he's still on the board there.  You can disagree, but understand that's not compelling enough to convince me otherwise, given the information that's out there.
I like this trade too. However, if a trade comes, I would rather prefer to trade with the Browns for their 12,19, Gipson, and a 3rd or 4th. Smile lol But this trade presents an option to grab a few other valuable picks, as well as still be picking a top talent at a high need position. So I would be satisfied.

GO JAGS!!

I agree that he's likely BAP if there at #3, I just don't see a huge dropoff like you do.

To me, it would just depend on compensation on whether it's worth it to trade down.
I wonder if the QBs go 1 & 2 if there actually is any interest in teams trading up for "the best player in the draft".  If Williams really is that great, the Jags should have plenty of trade options.  We have considered trade partners who need a franchise QB.  How about trade partners who need a disruptive D-lineman?  Teams don't usually trade up for a DT, do they?

I dunno.  I just feel like Dave & Gus want to add either the perfect LEO or the perfect OTTO to this D for the next 5 years.  They can probably get a good RB and WR in rounds 2 and 3.

The only other scenario I envision is if they have identified a pass rusher they can get in round 2 or 3 who they think is the equal of the ones bunched at the top of the draft, then that would free them to pick a WR at #3 and get the pass rusher later.

I don't want any of the pass rushing tweeners who don't do anything particularly well.

I'm starting to believe Amari Cooper is BAP
