Why is everyone trying to sell us Fowler? Sure he is a good player, Is he the 3rd best player? Gene Smith used to get sold guys so those picking after him could do well. Right now I see 3 guys, Winston Williams and Mariota. Take the one available. Yea, I am going to get blasted as we have Bortles. My thinking is we draft the one available. if he is a QB have him carry a clipboard for a year. We should not be afraid to draft Mariota if he is there. If Bortles hears footstep I don't care. We would then have some real competition at QB. Hopefully we wont be drafting this high again for a while. This chance will not come again. We would have on the roster two quality QB possibilities in a QB league.
I know Kelly is hoping he falls lower so he can get him for less. The heck with Kelly and his college mind games if he wants him so bad he has our number.
We will be drafting this high perennially if we took that approach,,,
What if the "best player" in the draft for our pick is a qb or WR every year for the next fifteen drafts...
Are we going to have a team full of qb and wr's?
You realize we will only play one qb at a time right?

His rebuttal will be "we'll trade the QB you don't want".
In advance I'll cite Ryan Mallet. 3rd round QB with 1st round potential. Backed up the best in the business in Tom Brady for 4 years and fetched a late rounder in return of a trade.
Tis the season for draft hot takes
Football Outsiders March 27, 2015 article on Offensive Lines 2014 season
<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol' title="External link">http://www.footballo...rs.com/stats/ol</a>
The Jaguars were the worst at pass protection blocking & in the bottom 10 blocking for the run.
If you compare Football Outsiders Defensive Line rankings for last season
<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl' title="External link">http://www.footballo...rs.com/stats/dl</a>
The Jaguars were 2nd overall in getting at the passer (bills were 1st) and 9th against the run (when grading only the defensive line)...
Why would the Jaguars spend the 3rd overall pick getting Fowler when GM Dave Caldwell already resigned Tyson Alualu signed Free Agent Odrick to play LE, and SKuta to play strong side OLB. HC Gus Bradley has publicly said he's confident in Poz and has total faith in him as the MIKE. Weak side LB Telvin Smith might improve to be a ProBowl player this year. Chris Clemons is getting older but he had a good season & while A Branch was injured he is a good backup rotation player as LEO.
When the Offensive Line is playing as the leagues worst, especially at protecting the QB on pass plays why wouldnt you sign a LT? According to Football Outsiders Left Tackle Luke Joekel was ranked in the bottom 10 of the worst starting LTs in the league.
Should it really shock us if he drafts a LT with the 3rd overall pick?
Which LT in this draft is worth drafting at 3? No one in this draft is as good of a prospect as Joeckel was.
The GM already said that he wanted to trade down should a good offer come to him.
Anyone that watched the Jaguars this season knows that the Offensive Line is horrible, so should we be shocked if an OLineman is taking in the 1st or 2nd round?
It'll be interesting if the NFL ever evolves to this mindset. Considering that the QB position is regarded as the most important position tenfold, coupled with the rookie pay scale; one would think this philosophy would take effect sooner rather than later.
If you're a perennial loser while drafting in the top five annually, why not take a shot at multiple QBs until you get it right?
I would argue that LT Luke Joekel is more of a failure at LT than Blake Bortles is at QB. In fact if the Offensive line was one of the best instead of the worst I think Shoelace would have been noticed more (along with toddman) and Bortles might have came close to rookie of the year (the problems with FS & CBs were still there along with an injured rookie WR class)...
Again which LT prospect is worth taking at 3?

Derpy derp.

1st yes, 2nd no. Unless we trade way back in the 1st.

Shows us how weak the top of this draft is.
Usually, there are a choice of top LTs, CBs, RDEs, and DTs in the mix.
No LTs, no CBs, no RDEs, and only one DT pressing the top QBs for the #1 pick.
Not typical. Premium positions are light at the top.

Exactly. With premium positions so light, it's why it makes sense to go after someone like Beasley or Fowler.

If you can trade out of the pick. Better value later.
If you can't, you'll be forced to pick one of those if Williams is gone.
I'd still prefer Cooper to either if we can't move out. Better prospect at his position than those two, IMO.
Brees and Rivers in San Diego?
Personally, I am not desiring someone to hold a clipboard for the next 3 years until we figure out Blake's future. No QB in round 1. If Mariota was Andrew Luck, I could then be swayed....but he is not.
I am not ready to throw in the towel as yet on Joeckel at LT. Give him another year of development and experience. I don't believe he'll be a bottom 10 LT going forward. The reality is I don't believe Caldwell will be throwing in the towel yet either.
We need to take the best available player at a premium position of need.
So:
Best available (Winston, Williams, Cooper, Fowler, Beasley?)
Premium position (QB, DE, CB, OT)
Need (Fowler)
The only player that fits all three of those prerequisites is Dante Fowler.
Although reasonable people might differ.
