Quote:You guys are getting lost in measurables; the most meaningful tool is game tape. What does that tell you?

Use Suggs as an example. At the combine and pro day, at 6'3 262, he ran a disappointing 4.8+ 40, only 19 reps on the bench, and 33 inches vertical. Although he had set the NCAA record in sacks and was a high motor guy, he fell down from the top 5 of the draft due to his "measurables". Baltimore snatched him with the 10th pick, and wound up with a 6 time pro bowl player, 2011 NFL defensive player of the year, and team career leader is sacks with over 106.

I don't think anybody was trying to rate combine drills over tape, at least I hope not.

Suggs is a good comp for Fowler. I like it. Just like the Houston one more and it's a lot closer than some on here will acknowledge.

Fowler doesn't have Suggs's production, either.

I don't know how accurate it is but Suggs's college weight was listed at 250. They usually inflate that by a few, and he may have played around 240-245. Which is considered too light for some people.
Quote:way to cherry-pick measurables.

Who says the 10-yard split is the most important?  If anything, I've heard the 3-cone drill is the most important because it shows whether you can change directions/bend well.

the vertical, broad jump, bench press, and most importantly, the 3-cone drill, are all in favor of Houston, who measured at 6'3" and 270lbs with 34 1/2" arms.
10 yard is more important than the 40 yard...but you are right, 3 cone and the jumps are far more telling than the dash split.

except there is a lot more to football than analyzing physical stats from a combine.
14.5 sacks in 3 years...3 against a small school in one game. Doesn't seem like a dominant pass rusher to me. I don't want a good player at #3... I want a game changer!

Jags had 46 sacks last year and still had weak pressure which is more important

There's a lot of gator fans on here. When I saw the first Suggs comparison, I chuckled. When I saw three more people agree, I wanted to bust out laughing.

Suggs set a NCAA record with 24 sacks in one season at ASU. That's 9.5 more than Fowler had in his entire college career. Fowler finished with 15 sacks, but Suggs had 44 when he went pro.

They have similar physical traits, but you're going to be extremely disappointed if you buy the hype from some of those that think Fowler is the next Suggs.
