Most of the names on the list are 1 or 2 round players.  Then Smelter's name pops up.  As the expression goes that name "sticks out like a sore thumb."

Just like Bowanko from last year. If he's available in the 6th or 7th I expect Dave to pull the trigger. He had the potential to be a day 2 pick if not for his injury. He could be the steal of the draft and is exactly what you're looking for in the late rounds, high upside, big potential fliers.

one injured player a year is enough.  we don't have that type of "luxury" IMO.

 

I would actually love for them to have a go at Smelter in the later rounds.  He's got the physical tools to be very good.  Or he could just be a Stephen Hill type... but I think he's actually better than Stephen Hill.

I was thinking that we do actually have that luxery. Whether it's Gurley, Smelter or Cedric Ogbuehi. We have a young receiving corp, Denard Robinson and Luke Joeckel. We can afford a couple Colvin type picks this year

It's interesting to see who's not on the list and the unexpected names who are...


For instance, we've invited over Ajayi, Allen, Yeldon, Gurley and Gordon, but not Duke Johnson or Tevin Coleman (well, not at the time I'm writing this anyway !). Does that mean we've got no interest in those two ?


And then there are the lesser-known names who could be this year's Bowankos...


Artis-Payne, Bunche, Carter, J Coleman, Emanuel, Smelter..


Edit... Just looked up those players. Artis-Payne sounds like a Gerhart replacement, Bunche appears to be an agile guard (sounds hopeful) and Emmanuel sounds promising.


Carter doesn't seem to make much sense though - sound like an inferior Cyprien.

  Looking at the list that you posted in the beginning of the thread  ( thanks ),  one thing I noticed is that as of now,  no pure DT's are on the list.   I'm not sure if this is an indicator that the two starters are coming along well in their injury recoveries or whether the Jaguars are disguising their intentions.   But considering the size of the list,  it's attention getting.

Just been looking back at the visits we arranged last year. Of the 22 visitors, we only picked TWO (Bortles and Bowanko).


Another 3 we worked with at the Senior Bowl (Colvin and the two Smiths)


So that means Lee, Robinson, Linder and Johnson were probably selected after conversations at their pro-days, phone conversations or no conversations at all.


Also, we spoke to a lot of QBs (seven) last year, before picking one in the first round.


We've spoken to a lot of pass rushers (six or seven, depending on how you classify some of them), safeties (five) and running backs (Five) this year. We've invited over four WRs.


Based on that completely unscientific count, if say we're looking to go pass rusher in round one and RB in round two (although there are four WRs on the list, at least two of them will be gone by round two and I can't see us taking any of those safeties in the second round)

I think he could be a really good late-round yard-grinder if we don't go for one of the top 2.
