Ok...
It's gonna be a long season for Braves fans.

Smart move. Silly by Padres. They already have an above average bullpen.

Relievers are like running backs. There are a ton of good ones you can find for cheap. No need to pay tons of money or give good assets for one.

It looks like the Braves are gearing their team towards 2017 when their new ballpark in suburban Atlanta is scheduled to open.
I saw the Padres also took on BJ Upton's full contract. Dumb.
Might as well trade freeman for some more no names. Maybin is an all right player, but no where near kimbrel's level.

A little mad at the Braves right now. Oh well.
Lol at the Braves tanking. Can't be a fun time to be a Braves fan. It's crazy because just last year they looked like a team with a bunch of young talent poised to take the next step.

Yet, oddly, you post in the thread.

That was the catalyst for the deal. The Braves weren't looking so much to dump Kimbrel's contract, it was the Albatross around their neck that was the ridiculous money owed to Upton they were desperate to dump. To get the Padres, or anyone, to accept Upton, Kimbrel had to be part of the deal.
If Matt Wisler develops into a number 3 type of starter as John Sickels is projecting,   at the very least the Braves will have something significant to show from this trade:

2) Matt Wisler, RHP, Grade B+/Borderline B: Age 22, posted 4.42 ERA with 136/42 K/BB in 147 innings between Double-A and Triple-A, 157 hits. PCL environment worked against him and reports see him as more of a number three starter than an ace-type, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Definitely true. Its just hard to get excited for the upcoming season with the ongoing fire-sale.

Similar to what we experienced with the Jaguars when Dave took over. They weren't going to be a playoff team with or without the players they shed.
