Interesting read. Someone did their homework.
As I recall, Khan pushed for that pick. It was not a conventional Gene pick in any way. He would've gone lineman if he had his way.

Exactly. Up to that point, the same people panning Gene for that pick because of the known character issues were howling that all he brought in were boy scouts, and that this was one of the reasons the team struggled. Khan pushed for this pick.
Let's not portray the Bucs front office as being far more effective because of this report. The guy they drafted with the pick they got from Jacksonville is now playing in St. Louis.
This information has actually been out for a while.

Now I haven't followed Barron's career that closely, but I would not necessarily count Barron's departure as an indictment against him.
This same Tampa organization once had CB Aqib Talib, and CB Darelle Revis in that secondary, and they, too are gone because they changed schemes.

Didn't Aquib Talib have off the field issues as well?

Everything Gene did was wrong, everything he didn't do was right. Anything good that happened while he was here was in-spite of him, anything bad that happened while he was here was because of him.
That's the official white washed history of his era.

Cyprien>Barron
We've gone from "Can't win at all" to "Can't win them all"..
At the time, Blackmon was the pick for us. Nobody thought he was going to booze it up like he did. Yes he had priors, but you have to give the benefit of a doubt and hope he straightens himself out. That was too much talent to pass on.
You just can't blame anyone for picking him...

What are you even talking about?

I agree, this screams of a front office publicly patting theirselves on the back trying to portray them as smarter than everyone else.
If WR was a primary need for them, they probably would've considered Blackmon even with the known issues. They just signed Jackson to a big contract that year so they weren't going to spend a high draft pick on a WR no matter what.

Yes. At one point he was even accused of shooting someone or shooting at someone, but IIRC, he was cleared of those charges.
Whatever off the field incidents he had did not dissuade the Patriots or Broncos (two highly successful organizations), from signing him.

He didn't draft Earl Thomas in 2010.
That was DEFINITELY WRONG.

He had a ton of issues. At least two fights with teammates. Assaulted a cab driver and got an NFL suspension for it. Also got a four game PED suspension. The one you're speaking of involved him, his mom and his sister's boyfriend or husband. But charges were dropped due to lack of witnesses.
Great talent but a complete turd.
I don't think a team drafting 1st overall was very good at homework.

I recall a reporter followed him off the field when he got injured, and he told the reporter to F-off. Later, the NFL or team personnel made him apologize to the reporter and do a brief interview.

Interesting read. Someone did their homework.
Is this the same Buccaneers team that finished 2-14 last season and has the #1 Pick in the upcoming NFL draft?
This is the Buccaneers team that's doing its homework?
Not sure how to add the link from my sportnet app.
just read an article about the bucs scout spying on blackmon leading up to the draft. His job was to watch this popular bar in Oklahoma for one week from 3-11 and reports say blackmon went in several To too many times that lead them to dropping him off their draft boards.
that is quite the limits for a team to go to but do you believe it played off for their behalf?
