If we Bortles isnt the guy and we missed on a good one in this class. Carr will be that guy.

Quote:And we are still discussing this because......?
Good for Teddy for playing well last season. Has nothing to do with Blake and how he will end up as a QB.
Because we are FANATICS and that's what FANATICS do, plus it's a long off season, among other reasons............................

Does this meet the Bridgewater thread quota for April?

I know it was just the preseason, but what BB did in those games gives me high hopes that he's gonna be great. Not just good. Great.
He just needs to keep developing... I think we got the right guy

Imagine if that was the only glimpse of Blake we saw last year.
Fans and media would be foaming at the mouth to see him play this year.

I'm still all for Bortles. He's a guy that will improve his game each year.

I think back to the Jaguars-Lions pre-season game. On the Lions pre-season network telecast, one of the announces paid Blake Bortles a high compliment. In essence, he said that Bortles is a right handed much more physically talented version of Kellen Moore. Considering that Kellen Moore has been extremely efficient and effective in the last two pre-seasons and that he's one of the most cerebral QB's in the NFL, Bortles displayed complete package potential that evening.

The game against Chicago, he had Tirico and Gruden praising him on nearly every play. Tirico made a comment about Bortles checks every box you look for in a QB.

The two games combined led me to raise my expectations for the Jaguars to a 6 to 9 win team in 2014 ( instead of a 3 or 4 win team ), if Blake Bortles played most of the season. While that turned out to be a bad prediction adjustment on this end, what Blake Bortles displayed in those two games bodes well for his future if he overcomes the affects of playing in a very adverse situation as a rookie.
IMO, Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden is the best current announcing team in the NFL. I highly respect their opinions.

Everyone swwms to be missing one crucial detail about the preseason: teams dont blitz. Once they started to in the regular season things really started going downhill.

Yet, if I recall correctly, Blake Bortles did see some blitzes ( unconventional packages ) in the Lions game. One of the things that jumped out for me is how poised Bortles seemed to be in that game. Most of the Defensive starters were still in the game on the final drive in the 1st half. That didn't seem to matter to Bortles, which is a good thing for the Jaguars.

It's just irrelevant to the point D6 was making. I think we are all aware that Bortles improvement is predicated on better protection.
Obviously a young and raw QB will need better protection than Bortles got to settle into any improved technique. Hell, that protection last year would have perennial pro-bowl QBs making some dumb mistakes.

Blake did some good things in the regular season as well. Even when under pressure. Of course once he was banged up and had ended 200+ plays on his backside things got pretty squirrelly with his technique, but he did show the toughness to take hits and still release the ball.

(^ sidebar - note Hurns catching that one with his hands)

He was given some time here, and his footwork is still shabby -- but he does stay patient in the pocket and make a minuscule step into the throw for a big first down.
I think if he can engrain some better fundamentals and get an uptick in performance from that line, he'll quiet most of his doubters this season.

I genuinely believe even Brady would have struggled with our line last year.

Agreed.
A prime illustration of this is when Tom Brady struggled mightily on a MNF game in Kansas City in which the Chiefs Defense manhandled the Patriots blockers. That led to Bill Belichick making changes in the starting lineup on the Patriots Offensive Line, which helped carry them to a Super Bowl Championship.

I sure hope Marrone and Olson can figure out a similar adjustment in Jacksonville!

Time will tell if the Jaguars will have the necessary pieces on the Offensive Line to make this a reality. But the Jags did hire two coaches that are highly qualified.
It's very unfortunate that George Yarno is dealing with a very serious health situation and as a result the Jaguars didn't have enough experience in 2014 at key coaching positions involving the Offensive Line. Especially, with so much youth on the O-Line. In 2015, the Jags should be much better equipped both from a coaching and experience standpoint to come much closer to maximizing the team's Offensive Line performance.

Quote:I dont think you realize how many people were all over the teddy bandwagon. A lot of fans were disappointed in the bortles pick because they wanted teddy. And at this point, teddy has shown a lot more promise.
In your unfounded opinion.
You sound an awful lot like a former poster...
With Ted, they seemed to have schemed to his strengths, reeling things in for him during the season. Short range, high percentage passes with reliance on heavy YAC.
That speaks more of a rookie QB with limitations at the NFL level. Not some blossoming superstar.
