I would be ok with Gordon in the 2nd if Gurley is gone

I think I've figured it out. Dave has trade offerz currently on the table and will take the right offer, trade back and select Melvin Gordon.


Keeps saying it's all about Blake. They're going to give him the best chance to succeed

Maybe a trade up. All this talk about trading down, but he traded up twice in last year's draft. We already have so many young guys on our team, I think we could end up trading up with a 2nd and a package and keep the 3rd overall pick.

You guys realize we brought everyone and their brother in for meetings last year. Kyle Van Noy, Clowney, Bortles, etc etc

you're only allowed a set number of official visits IIRC, so they're not going to invite someone just because.

 

Last year, we invited a Center named Luke Bowanko and everyone was like "who?" 

 

Bowanko wasn't even on the radar as a draftable Center on most websites last year

Unless he falls to round two, I don't see us drafting him. Pays to do your homework though

But it's like 30 visits.  I think it means they are interested in the player but doesn't necessarily reveal where they have them ranked.   WalterFootball apparently has a list of all the visits for each team.  It also claims they "met" with RB Cameron Artis-Payne at the Senior bowl, and TJ Yeldon at the combine.

Still, a lot of players to make sense of what the visits really mean.

of course, but 30 visits are still valuable.  It doesn't tell you where you have them ranked, but it's not just a ploy or a waste of time like some people like to think.  They're doing their homework on specific players that they think will fall in specific spots.

The visit(s) helped them make the decision to draft.

 

In rounds 6, 7, it's as much about deciding whether a pick is warranted or not as anything else.

 

These guys aren't likely to make rosters, and those that do usually don't last.  What putting a flier on these guys does is ensure they get to kick the tires first.  You draft, and he's yours till you part.  In UDFA, you may have competition to sign the guy and may not get him.

Wrong. If we don't bring in a player for a private workout, there is a high risk of picking the wrong guy because we don't know enough about him. That happened with Tyson Alualu and Blaine Gabbert. Luke Bowanko worked out and really was the right guy for our sixth round pick, which tells me if Alualu and Gabbert had private workouts, they would not have been #10 overall picks. So if someone works out for us, it means we know whether he is the right guy or not.

Strictly by numbers, 22 starting positions plus punter, kicker, and long snapper.

 

That's not a lot of visits to go around.  Needless to say, some positions are more likely to have visits than others.

I saw a mock trade for Todd Gurley where the Jags traded with the Patriots exchanging Picks 36 and the 4th Rd pick for Pick 32 and the Patriots 4th Rd pick. I am sure the same trade might work for Melvin Gordon if Dave Caldwell wants him bad enough.

I assume it was for the pick at the end of the 4th right? Patriots have the buccaneers 4th rounder from the Logan Mankins trade.

Probably. I doubt the Patriots would want to give anybody the second pick of the fourth round.

 

Another possibility is trading with the Saints, who would only drop five spots from #31 after using their "earned" pick in the first round and have two second round picks.
