Quote:Well....if the ACA is aka Obamacare, I suppose the Patriot Act could aka Bushcare.... Or Bushscare, depending how you interpret it.

How many executive orders did Bush issue changing the patriot act?
Executive orders have an interesting history.    The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order, as was Truman's executive order desegregating the armed forces.   Eisenhower ordered the desegregation of public schools by executive order (I don't see how he had the power to do that.)   Japanese-Americans on the west coast were interned during WWII by executive order.

Governors also use executive orders.

Rather than making this all about Obama, I suggest all of you read the history of executive orders in this Wikipedia article.  It's much more interesting than whether Obama is using them properly or not, on which I personally have no opinion.    Obama has not issued a particularly high number of executive orders.   In fact Bush issued far more than Obama, of course he was in office longer.

As far as Arizona passing a law prohibiting the funding of any executive order by the President, I think they should be careful they don't shoot themselves in the foot with that one.

This Wednesday, the Arizona House of Representatives passed House Bill 2368, sponsored by Representative Bob Thorpe, R-Flagstaff. If signed into law, the bill would prohibit Arizona from funding any executive orders issued by President Obama.

It's funny.   If you read the article, it says Arizona has basically seceded from the United States if they pass that.

No chance, they have to pay for the Obamigrants somehow.
Quote:That's really a straw man argument. One has nothing to do with the other. One is governing by executive fiat, and the other followed the proper legislative process.

This country isn't ruled by a king. If he doesn't like having to work with congress he can't simply bypass it, although that's exactly what this president has done repeatedly.

I'm not defending the patriot act either. I think it's bad law. But, you're trying to portray it as a similar situation to these executive orders, and it's simply not the same thing.

If, by this president, you mean the last few presidents then yes you are right. Don't pretend he's the first just because you hate the guy/party. I suggested earlier congress propose legislation to reign in those EO powers and think majority of Americans would support it. They could do it and it would land on Obama's desk.
