Quote:I think the problem with that strategy is that so many teams in the top ten need pass rushers, if we traded down too far, we'd likely miss out on most of them.

To me, one ot the more enticing possibilities is getting 13 and 31 from New Orleans.

But I think under that scenario, all of the top tier LEO candidates (Fowler, Ray, Beasley, Gregory) will all be off the board by 13.

Prior to yesterday, I'd envisioned landing a guy like Trae Waynes at 13.  Now, I would think OT.

They crazy thing about all these rush OLBs, is that since most if not all are "tweeners" - the best (or at least the best value) may not be found at the top.

There are some sleepers out there as well like Max Valles that might be found much later.  Some raw talent at the position.

That way if we do go somewhere other than pass rush for the first two or three picks, we still may be in play for a pass rusher later.
Quote:We better hope someone else really wants Mariota at three, otherwise... looks like we're stuck there now that Bradford is an Eagle.

Chip Kelly trading for Sam Bradford, and the New York Jets trading for Ryan Fitzpatrick tells me the sentiment around the league is Winston and Mariota are going 1st and 2nd respectively. I know the Titans talked up Mettenberger but I don't see Whiz passing on a QB of Winston/Mariota's caliber, the Jaguars should be in a position to pick the best player (non QB) in the draft.

Great point.  Plus, Locker retiring.
Quote:It would be a mistake (IMO) to pass up a better player in Williams for any of these pass rushers. If Williams isn't there I'd prefer to trade down and pick up any of those pass rushers at a lower position.
its just your opinion that Williams is the better player. Rumor is teams dont see highly of Williams as the media. I think the pick will be Fowler or Ray, if Williams is there or not. Fowler if Dave wants to go the safer route or Ray, the 2 best pass rushers in the draft imo

I'm not basing my opinion off the media.

I'm basing it off what I'm hearing from scouting reports, etc.

If anything, it's the media that's hyping these tweeners as top 5 material, where I don't feel they belong.  If the draft were stronger and there were a handful of elite LTs, true RDEs instead of tweeners, and elite corners... I can't see how any of these tweeners would even be talked about in the top 5.  It isn't common to not have those positions represented at the top, but they're missing in this draft.  It reminds me of the 1998 draft in some ways.

I'm open minded.  I'm willing to hear reports about how Williams isn't the best player in the draft, and that Fowler and Ray are graded higher than Williams.  Because everything I've heard is exactly how I feel as well - Williams is graded higher and it isn't particularly close.

Folks were treating Clowney similarly last year.  Trying to talk him out of being the highest graded player.  In the end, Planet Theory proved to be alive and well once again.

Again, I'm very open.  I'm willing to change my mind if there's anything substantive out there to change it.  There are few out there who have been more vocal about BAP than me.

We all have opinions, and they all vary.  Nothing wrong with that.
