Caldwell has shown that he likes to dig into the lesser prominent free agent pool to find raw gems to polish.  This pool in the past has brought us Sen'derrik Marks, Alan Ball, Ziggy Hood, and Roy Miller to name a few.  These were guys generally not found in the discussions of top free agents of their particular year, but have turned out to be solid players for the Jags.

Who might be some good 'value' candidates this year?  I looked at the NFL.com 101 best free agents list, and removed the top 50 for consideration.  Here's some to keep an eye on...

#56 RT Joe Barksdale 6'5 326 26y ...decent starter that has been developing, good size.

#66 MLB Mason Foster 6'1 241 26y ...if they jettison Poz, active young starting MLB.

#71 OLB Brooks Reed 6'3 254 28y ...fill in the otto role until a rookie develops.

#75 DE/DT Jarvis Jenkins 6'4 315 26y ...Alualu challenger, Jarvis needs new scenery.

#77 OLB Akeem Ayers 6'3 255 25y ...Titans under-achiever resurrected in New England.

#90 TE Rob Housler 6'5 250 26y ...move TE with speed.

There were many more to give serious consideration that would have tripled the size of the list.
I definitely believe these type of moves are coming, along with a top tier FA. Last year he missed on Dekoda Watson.
Sam Acho - OTTO

6'3, 257, Age: 26 (will be 27 in September)

Had 11 sacks in his first 2 years when he was starting.

Seems to be a pattern of underachieving Tacks
I would be interested in Foster.
Mason Foster is intriguing.

I love Barksdale.

Quote:Mason Foster could be an intriguing option as Poz's eventual replacement. He was an odd fit in Lovie's cover two scheme this year but has played well in his previous years. And he's only 25. Its rumored that the Falcons may show interest so he should fit well in Bradley's scheme.

Thank me later.
