Quote:Rome would remind them no empire last forever.

Quote:It would also say should it fall it will be replaced with a different version of the same thing. The western world is not changing boundaries.

Well that idiom is a fallacy considering Rome's fall from grace has yet to occur.
Quote:I like you, I like you passion and your takes but I don't believe you here. I think it's exactly what you want.

In all honesty, I'd take a pealing back of the regulation and more issues being defaulted to the state level over the nation breaking apart any day. Issues like, Narcotics, Abortion, Education, Public Transportation, Welfare, Healthcare should all be decided at the State level. That would be my ideal situation, let the people of Oregon decide what is best for Oregon and let the people of Florida decide what is best for Florida. That doesn't mean we can't have one currency, one army, one standard for pollution and so on.

I don't see anything wrong with that in theory other than the principle that we are increasingly part of a world wide economy and society that is progressively being blurred together. Boundaries matter less and less each year. I think the downside of not having a unified idea for our country would be to see ourselves fall behind into petty tribal like thinking, similar to the middle east. In a lot of people's mind, it perpetuates the us vs them mentality.
