Quote:Let's hope that we don't abandon the plan that was set in motion a couple of years ago at this point... make smart offers to players who can really help us long term.
Yes, because the plan of drafting and signing 2nd and 3rd tier free agents looks like it's working like a charm, huh?
The biggest thing this team lacks is talent. If we can sign a guy like Suh or Thomas or Cobb, you do it.
Bulaga would be the most important pickup if we got him. The right side of the line could be a huge strength for us, since Bowanko and Linder should only get better.
After a solid RT the next priority has to be either Cobb/Thomas. One of those two are needed. Id prefer Cobb because I feel like you can find athletic TEs easier than really good WRs in the draft.
Really dont feel like going after Suh is worth it. Just because of the price tag it will come with. We will probably go D-line in round 1, to improve the team more as a whole the money could be spent in better places.

Let me ask you this.... If Suh had been drafted by the Jags and is asking for this much, would you want the Jags to resign him?
Quote:If just a big IF they get those two, Jaguars could be an elite team. Something BB can throw too.
BB can have all the weaponry in the world to throw to, until he has some protection he'll/we'll struggle.
You have to spend it now. There is plenty of room to structure these deals with future contracts in consideration. Go for the top guys available at every position. Fill some holes. Go big.

Agreed.

Yes. Do it BIG then. I agree
I don't think Cobb is worth a ham sandwich and after watching the fall of the Broncos late in the season, I am convinced Thomas is worth a filet mignon sandwich. I can't foresee any scenario where this guy isn't wearing teal (or black or white) next year.
I predict that when free agency finally arrives we'll all be disappointed to learn that there are 31 other teams competing for the same guys we want.
Quote:I don't mind getting Thomas even though I have my reservations about him. It would suck signing an overpaid slot receiver.
What makes you think Randall Cobb is overpaid? In addition to being a very good route runner and ball catcher on offense, he can return punts - something Ace Sanders could not do at all last year. You don't know until he plays for a different quarterback how much, if any, effect playing with the best one has on his success in Green Bay.
I think Cobb sticks with GB. Jags do have a shot at, getting Julius Thomas.
Looks like Thomas is getting franchised tag according to NFL network.

Do they mean Demarius (sp?) or Julius?
Go ahead and tag J Thomas....just means D Thomas will get to test the waters
D. Thomas is getting tagged, not Julius.
I'm skeptical of Julius Thomas. The guy did nothing for two years, then blew up out of nowhere with Peyton Manning. Someone convince me that he was more than just a moving target for Manning.

In the first 9 games of the season when Thomas was healthy and playing at a high level, the Broncos averaged 31.8 points per game.
In the last 7 games of the season when Thomas was out or hampered by injury, the Broncos averaged 28 points per game.
Manning had 29 TD passes, 12 to J. Thomas in the 9 games while he was healthy.
Manning had 10 TD passes, 0 to J. Thomas in the 7 games while he was out or hampered by injury.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Manning also hurt with a torn quad in the latter part of the season as well? If so, the drop in his production could have been more attributed to that.

That's where scouting comes in. A professional NFL scout should be able to look at film and tell if Julius Thomas is the real deal or not.
