Does anyone know why these 2 didn't compete at the combine? Injury? Are they gonna run the 40 and be at their pro day? Don't really have time to research
Derron Smith recently had sports hernia surgery, so he'll be doing all his work at pro day. Not sure about Holliman

Holliman interests me a lot. Is his tackling issue a coaching issue? Meaning something that can be helped with NFL level defensive coaches? His ball skills are awesome and this team severely needs more INTs.

He's an interesting prospect but his tackling (or lack thereof) could become a major issue at the next level if not corrected early. From his draft profile on NFL.com:

Quote: Atrocious tackler. Would rather hit than tackle. Doesn't wrap up and gives limited effort. Had 44 total tackles with 20 missed and/or broken tackles, which was the worst ratio for an FBS starter. Slow to break down in space and lacks balance and base when tackling. Doesn't always play at full speed or with max effort. Gives half-hearted attempt as high-to-low blitzer.

There's also rumors that he has poor work ethic and that would need to be checked into before investing any type of draft pick on him.
So why was he a starter in college? He will get burned a lot in the NFL with that description.

Because in college. Against lesser competition he could get away with it

I think there could be a lot of interest in that pro day. He could be the best FS in the draft.
I think we get one of these guys and be the future at FS for us
Holliman ran today at his pro day. If its in the 4.4 range, I'd like him in the 2nd.

It was 4.61, and he was seen as very disappointing across the board in drills.

Damarious Randall is the FS to watch he is skyrocketing as people are digging deeper, could be a 2nd rounder. Also, I still quite like the idea of Byron Jones as a FS convert.

yeah, guy is from my hometown Pensacola.  Didnt realize he ran a 4.46, the speed is something Dave and Gus will like

Doing research on Randall and with his speed, he might be best suited for this defense.  Do you know what kind of defense they played at Arizona St?    Reading his breakdown on CBS it says he plays better in space, "Understands angles and sees things happening quickly. Decisive sideline angles with closing burst to make up ground. Good anticipation to jump routes, reading the quarterback and baiting throws. "

Then is says  "Needs to stay patient in his pedal and often bites too early, which will lead to disaster when lined up in man coverage"  which we wont have to worry much about as he will play deep safety.  If CBS breakdown is accurate on him, with his speed and style of play, he might be the best FS in this class for our defense.  None of the other guys have the speed it takes to play what we want out of our FS except this guy.

The other top guys in the league that play FS the way we want our guy to play is

Devin McCourty  40 time  -  4.41

         and

Earl Thomas   40 time  -  4.43

Damarious Randall with the 4.46 is the only guy even close.

To be honest, no I haven't looked into it myself.

DB is really the only position that I highly rely on 3rd party info for, cause it's so hard to get an accurate opinion from cutups when so much of what they do is off camera.

Those 3rd party reports from people that I trust are awfully enticing though. If we don't take him at 36 there is a very good chance we don't get another shot at him.

My top safety would be Derron Smith. Trade back in the first and get another 2nd, Take Smith with that pick.
