Quote:I don't think this reflects any particular knowledge of the team, just some guy at NFL.COM picking the highest paid veterans on a 3-13 team and speculating.

Exactly
So long as we have upgrades on the roster go for it, but lets not create more needs then we already have.

Quote:Wouldn't argue with any of them.  Clemons was solid but fa and the draft could change that.  Lewis sucks so Good riddance.  Gerhart is a powerback so if this team's line would have to dramatically improve to allow him to run.  Poz is way overpaid and slow.  My two cents

The only player listed on that site I could see getting cut is Lewis.

We dont need to cut any of them since we have the cap room, but I think Poz and Toby will stick, Lewis is gone unless we strike out on TE in FA and draft, and Clemons depends on DE in the draft and FA
would rather a trade attempt for Lewis and Poz

get a couple 7th rounders or something

So, let's say you're the C.E.O. of a business with 52 employees. One of them.......we'll call him Lewis........is pulling down one of the highest salaries in your company. He shows up late for work every day, bad-mouths the company and complains about his job to anyone who'll listen, doesn't get his work done on time, and needs a bath. The chairman of your board of directors asks you why Lewis is still employed at your company. You reply that the company is far below budget on its salary expenses, so it can afford to keep him.

Question; What line of work will you pursue after you're fired?

Its not that simple. Lewis, While trash on the field, Is still a leader in the lockeroom. Also dead money on cap could be an issue. Addition by subtraction isn't always the case with these things.

His starting status should be revoked and shouldnt be resigned. However Id rather not pay him to sit at home either if he can atleast motivate guys and be decent depth.

That's probably trading away two experienced veterans for two practice squad hopefuls.

Except that Lewis doesn't show up late, doesn't complain, doesn't bad-mouth the company and doesn't need a bath any more so than the 52 other employees in that company do. His results on the field aren't there, but off of it, he's still a leader of the team. At some point, that's not enough, and I don't expect it to be enough to save him if a top-tier TE is signed in FA or drafted, but it makes him worth keeping around just to see what we end up doing at the position.

Side note: if we do cut Marcedes Lewis, I suspect he'll be booking visits within a day and signed within a week. He's still got something to offer an NFL team, just not at his current salary.
Quote:Ha this is speculation.  The team doesn't need to move on any of these players.

Agreed...

NH3...
No matter the player, we Must obtain their replacement prior to releasing/trading them...

Scouting department of the Jaguars?

not if you package up those picks to move up and get someone that you're really high on.

...by moving up ten spots in the sixth round?

The other part of the equation is that nobody will trade for them.  Poz is a good two down LB but that's like a dinosaur these days.  Lewis has never been consistent.
I see Lewis going. He hasn't done anything in the past couple of years. Toby had some good runs and should be bigger this year with the line understanding blocking sceams and your teammates. If he gets hurt again then yeah he may not make it through the whole season. Poz is solid, smart and fearless but no longer an everydown LB but they need him also for that leadership. I am with yall when we say we don't have a replacement. Telvin is nice but in his own ability. So draft pick maybe. Same thing goes for Poz too. Get hurt again and that may be the end, even if they have no control over it. I still say we need to put Ace on kick return and until we do I see no gain out of that area. Ace needs blockers closer to him for that cut and explode. We need to pick up a TE. Clemons is fine. D will be unstoppable once this offense stays on the field and they can get their rest. Can't wait.

Na, people will trade for lewis and we could even get a good one and we need to take it. Lewis just isn't working for what we are trying to do. More than likely he will do good elsewhere. He wouldn't be the only one to do that.
Lewis produced last year?
There are reasons to make cuts other than cap room.
