Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner and the like have had an impact on the way that coaches now think about the cornerback position.  5 years ago it was all about feet and short area quickness.  Those traits are still critical, but They have become subordinate to Height, LENGTH and the ability to press at the line of scrimmage.  I think that more and more at the college level, when you have an athlete with size and change of direction you are going to see coaches teaching them to press at the line instead of roaming center field.

We probably will have Josh Evans back there again.

It amazes me to an extent that professional coaches will skip around from player type to player type simply to go with something that has worked for someone else in the past. Whatever happened to the idea that if you see a player with great to exceptional talents, you get him on your roster and figure out how to best make him effective?!?!

If you see a player with good cover skills, put him in Man. If you see a player who can bump and run, put him in press. I can't help but think that there are a lot of teams out there that are not getting the most out of what talent their roster holds simply because they are trying a "flavor of the week" defense.

A lot of copy-cats in this league because they can get fired very quickly.

One thing I like about Gus is that it appears he's building his team the way he likes to play defense.

You have to also be flexible. For instance, Aaron Colvin isn't the prototypical corner for us but does a lot of other things well so he was picked.

I really doubt that happens. I think they see him as depth at SS and have every intention of upgrading at FS.

Dude was a complete liability on way, way too many plays last season.  The way they coach their corners to play - they are trying to funnel action to the middle of the field (safeties) and Evans lacks the instincts and the square footage range required of a FS in this particular scheme.  I haven't even seen glimpses of it from him.
