I don't think enough people are talking about this guy on here. After his combine performance he's now probably the first or second rated pass rusher in the draft. Everyone is talking about Gregory, Ray, and Fowler but it's Beasley who stood out.The main concern with him was weight and strength and he answered both. The production on the field was always there as well as his speed. Last year a lot of people were interested in seeing Beasley play the LEO position under Bradley and thought he could be really something special there. Well now I think it's a real possibility.
I thought the major concern was his reliance on a strictly speed rush...
Like I posted in some other thread... he was light at Clemson, essentially a DPR who played three downs to to his talent on the third. But he showed a great ability to gain strength without losing speed.
All the hoopla says Fowler is better, though. I think our plan should look thus:
1.Leonard Williams
2a. Dante Fowler
2b. Trade back to 6 for a 3 And take Beasley
I think it's just cause he was the boring, known commodity coming off us thinking he was going to be in last year's draft. I was saying he was > Ray a few weeks ago on here and let's just add a few more >>>'s now. Never should have left the top 10 for the majority who thought that's where he should have gone last year, and he definitely shouldn't fall out of the top 10 this year.
That's the point of the Leo position, getting a guy who may be undersized to play the run but dominant rushing the passer.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we would have to settle for Gregory at 6 if we traded down w/ the Jets. Could easily see Williams going 2, then Fowler and Beasley 4-5.

The LEO build is anything but undersized.

I think Oak gets Carr a toy in Cooper or White...so at 6 might have 2 of Gregory//Beasley//Fowler @ 6.

I know WR is the popular thing to mock, but I really think they are going to go pass rusher.

I'd think the top six in this scenario would be:
1 TB Winston
2 TN Williams
3 NYJ Mariota
4 OAK White
5 WASH Fowler
6 JAX Beasley
Worst comes to worst, Oakland takes Fowler, Washington Beasley. Leaves us with our pick of DBs, OL, WR. If that was the case (and depending on FA) I'd take our highest rated OL or DB and then grab a rusher at 36.

Clemmings worth a 6 or just go with Scherff to hopefully solidify the interior of Scherff//Bowanko//Linder?

From what people are saying (I won't pretend to have sources, just stuff I see on Twitter) Collins is seen as the best RT, although when I was scouting him I stopped halfway through cause I thought he was a guard.
I think Scherff is athletic enough to play RT in spite of his arm length, so I'd go with him. Though once again that's assuming we don't address it in FA.

Only a Third? No thanks.

I think it just means we'd take Gregory, which is still fine he's gonna be a stud too.

I think it's far more likely the Raiders draft a WR than pass rusher. The Redskin might though.

If he can put on the weight, I'm all for it. I thought he played really stout against the run this year and he reminded me of a less twitchy Mack.
You're probably right as usual bro but I'm just terrified of Dion Jordan 2.0. I loved him in 2013 and Gregory is extremely similar trait wise.
Reading Footballs Future forums. Guys who aren't even Jags fans are saying if you drew up the ideal LEO prospect it would be Vic Beasley and he'd be the perfect pick for us at #3.

Jordan is a common comp now for sure, but he never showed nearly the pass rush abilities that Gregory has shown to me. I liked Dion too, but my comp to him was the swiss army knife Julian Peterson. Also, not sure we were ever really wrong about Dion's skills, but we'll never know cause he shot himself in the foot with him constantly being in the drug program and now notorious lack of work ethic.
If we are doing the comp game with Gregory then I am going Mingo all the way. Similar builds for all 3 guys but I think the skill set for Gregory is much more like MIngo. Line him up and let him destroy QBs every down.

It's worth what other teams say it's worth. I'd hope for more than a three given that the target would be a QB, but a third-round pick is decent compensation for a three-spot drop down the board in the modern draft environment. Remember, it cost us a four to go from the seventh pick to the fifth pick.

I hated Mingo. He was the most explosive guy and was always around the ball but never seemed to finish IMO. Like I said my comparison for Gregory is a less twitchy Mack but that was before I heard about this weight stuff.
Think there's any chance we take an OTTO with our first pick?
