First, I am a relatively new Jag fan since I moved here in 2010 from Gainesville. I grew up a Bucs fan but moving here and going to the Jags games I've learned to love em.

If you ask almost anyone what the best position group was for the us last year, they would answer D-Line.

I understand some of them are at the end of their career, but we also have a few young players that played very well last year. While the defensive line played well, our offense was among the worst in the league.... again. So why take a d lineman with the 3rd pick? Why not the 2nd round or sign a couple guys in free agency to come and compete for a spot.

I really think the Jags should draft Amari Cooper or Kevin White depending on who they like. We don't have a true number 1 receiver, or somebody that can take the top off which both players can do. If you didn't see yesterday white ran a 4.35, that's at 6' 2.5" and 215 lbs.

Why spend the money on Randall Cobb? I really like him as a player, but does anyone else see the same red flags I do? He has had the benefit of Aaron Rodgers throwing to him, and he has never been asked to be THE number one receiver. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a good receiver and his return game would be a big help.

Draft a number one receiver, sign Suh IF you can.

Thoughts?
And when we draft cooper and white and they perform like a rookie receiver, next year everyone will be saying 'we don't have a nr1 receiver draft blah blah blah' let your young players develop, geez
You don't draft a wr with the 3rd pick of the draft when we have needs in a lot of other positions.
Blackmon ran a 4.39 at his pro day. If he comes back there's your White speed. Receiver is actually one of the position groups that is very promising as is and even more so if Blackmon comes back. What we could benefit from is some veteran leadership in the group.

A WR at 3 or even after a trade back in the 1st is unnecessary for us. We need a dominate edge rusher, RT, or FS way more than a WR.
I'm with you on Cobb. I see a guy demanding number 1 money but I don't think he is a number 1. I think he a good but looks great because of who his QB is. I have no problem drafting either receiver because my view is to add as much support for your franchise QB as possible. My number 1 guy is Fowler due to his versatility and wide array of moves. After that I'd prefer one of the receivers although I'd have no problem with Williams either.

Im still not sold on drafting another WR so early. I believe we have some good young talent that we just need to get better. Other areas are far bigger holes in our team. I would still love to trade back and end up with a FS and more picks.

Even though offense was the problem last year, offense was already addressed last year.

The reason we were bad wasn't because they don't have the talent, it's because they were all rookies playing together.

We expect to see progression from guys like Linder, Bowanko, Joeckel, Bortles, Shoelace, Lee, Hurns, and Robinson.

We will get better on offense just by them making some strides in their 2nd year.

We should continue to improve the offense by signing a few veterans that can help out immediately.

At #3, I would like them to pick a D-lineman

People need to stop acting like Blackmon will contribute at all next season if he's reinstated. Kid hasn't played in practically two full years. He's nowhere close to being in football shape.
From a fiscal perspective, signing a good young edge rusher in free agency (ie. JPP) is likely going to cost about $12-16m per year.  Signing a good young wide receiver (ie. Cobb, Maclin, or Smith) is likely to cost about $8-10m per year.  From purely a long term financial cap perspective, it is more cost effective to get the young edge rusher in the draft.

You know that for sure? Who's to say he hasn't been keeping up with his fitness?

I agree he'll need some conditioning work, but that doesn't take a full year to get back, especially for someone as athletically gifted as he is.
Because there's a difference in being "fit" and being in "football shape." And how do you know that he didn't put on some pounds when he went off the grid for those few months and no one could get in contact with him? Expecting anything from someone that's gone through what he's gone through over the last two years is downright foolish.

Quite a bit of IF even preceeding him being on the team..... IF he doesn't screw up again --> IF he's reinstated --> If we even want him back --> If he's in good football shape --> If he can be productive

Sorry, its a nice story but I'm not passing up a stud talent for a guy with multiple ifs
People need to understand substance abuse and addiction can take a serious toll on your body. Most that make it through are shells of their former selves, and yeah it take a while to get back into the swing of things. Not to mention, once he's back, who's to say he doesn't relapse?

Needs are dynamic not fluid. We had three rookies that should be getting better at we. At DL we have veterans that week need to be replaced
