.....and how he sucks and needs to be replaced, etc. I offered no opinion because I live in Virginia and have never listened to the play-by-play, but in the same spirit of that thread, I'd like to offer up a similar thought:
Oesher sucks. And, frankly, I don't like his attitude. I used to look forward to reading Vic's columns because, even though he was wrong on occasions (like his whole thing about not needing to ever draft WRs, or "you get players where you get players" in defense of Gene's small school [BAD WORD REMOVED]), he always treated people in his mailbag with respect, and he was ALWAYS interesting and knowledgeable about football in general.
Oesher is snarky, and far too much of a little [BAD WORD REMOVED] for my taste, and he offers almost nothing of substantive value. To be honest, I've grown to sort of dislike him based entirely on reading his mailbag, which is unlike me because I like most everyone and because I'm a homer and pre-disposed to give everyone connected with the Jags a pass.
But, I'm totally sick of the guy and I'd rather we find someone else.
Vic would give you his opinion, not always what the organization would have had him say. Oesher has no opinion of his own, and always gives you a "PR" version of any issue. His opinions, when made, are sanitized in organizational teal.
Should I be ashamed that he selected both of my questions for his last o-zone? Anyway, I find some of his comments funny, but I do see how he could come off as snarky.
Stopped reading him two yrs ago.

And Vic could come off as an old timer who missed '70s football and thought Gene Smith was brilliant.
I think the OP is mis-remembering how Vic, like John, was an employee of the Jaguars and acted as such.
They have different styles, attitudes, and viewpoints. And thank god for it. I wouldn't want columnists to all be similar.
And for me Oesher's humor is appreciated. The NFL is entertainment, not splitting the atom.
And snarky? Do we not remember how Vic did not suffer fools? If anyone could be snarky it could be Vic. Oesher leans more to the goofy.
I read him at times, but I do think Vic was much better at his craft.
Frank Frangie is no John Oesher sir
Oesher has a column? I thought that died the first time he tried it?
Exactly, Adam. People accused Vic of being a team shill all of the time. And he responded to that criticism much more harshly that John ever has.
I'm not sure what people really expect from a team reporter. You're not not going to get stuff like "This player is crap" or "That coach needs to fired". It's just not going to happen. But that hardly makes them a shill for the team.
The only problem I have with Johnny O is that he writes A LOT of "fluff". Meaning, he says a whole lot of nothing at times.
He also downplays mostly everything. I feel like he's very reserved.
What I do like is that he knows what the fans feelings are toward certain subjects. And I really think he listens to that.
I kinda like his humor too lol
Vic was far more critical of a better Jaguars team than Oesher is of a worse one....

This sums up the difference between the 2 nicely.
Vic could be more of an [BLEEP]. But he knew more about football than Oehser.
We are lucky to have Oesher. Have you ever glanced at the majority of other team's websites? Some people complain about anything and everything.
What, no "lolumadbro" yet?
ehh.... doesnt really bother me. i haven't relied on the website for news for quite some time. now that i think about it, in the offseason, i rely more on this mb and 1010xl for my jags fix. ozone and all the stuff on the site is generally stuff i already read on here.
You know what's worse than his writing? Listening to him on the radio.
Hands down probably one of the worst ozones I have ever skimmed through today. I'm talking top 3 worst since he has been here.
Snore.
I wouldn't worry about that.
Signed,
Vic
