Bald eagle lays egg, becomes Internet sensation

A livecam placed above a nest in Decorah, Iowa, has turned a family of bald eagles into Internet celebrities.

The camera, which is run by the Raptor Resource Project, captured the mother laying an egg on Wednesday night. The egg is the first of the 2015 season to be laid in the Decorah nest. By Thursday morning, the livecam had racked up more than 308 million total views on Ustream.

We had an eagle cam overlooking a nest at Jordan Lake for several years. Last year 2 eaglets were born and people could watch the activities. Well, we got a tremendous amount of rain that compromised the nest and the eaglets slid to their deaths. It was determined that the parents won't be using the nest again so now they have a general camera to watch the birds there.

It was pretty neat to watch the parents bring in food and feed the eaglets. I was genuinely sad when the little ones perished. It was sad to watch.
There are now 2 eggs in the nest
