Look at the difference between the Saints and the Jaguars. Of the top 5 Saints players only one would represent a cap savings if cut. On the Jaguars the only players the only players that wouldn't save cap money when cut are the rookies.
You live and die by the QB in this league. This also applies to the huge cap number the good ones demand.

I agree that Brees put them in a hole to an extent but not that big of one to cause them to go over the cap by that much.
$10 mill to Colston
$15 mill to Gallette
$11 mill to Grubbs and Evans (guards)
Those are just terrible. Saints will be recovering from this for 2+ years at least.
They cant even cut some of them because of the dead money.
So what happens if a team is so stupid that it's impossible to get under the cap?

It is always possible to get under the cap, just not always easy.
If I recall correctly, Junior Gallete is currently facing battery charges from a recent incident, that if found guilty would place him in the new domestic violence program. Could he become a cut if he's found guilty?

Its the downfall of chasing a championship and missed draft picks. They can get under the cap, they'll just have to let some of these guys go.
Really not surprised by this at all. Wonder how it will effect them this offseason.

Yes reminds me of the Jags in the 2000,2001 season. Gallette gets a 12,500,000 Roster Bonus in March. He will be cut or they have to kick the can down the road some more.

If I'm looking at the chart correctly, cutting gallete will only save them $750k.
Three players that I could see them getting rid of in some way that the jags could pick up are:
Grubbs: LG
Evans: RG
Jairus Byrd: FS

what's funny is that knowing their horrible cap situation, they still signed high dollar FAs like Byrd. They're so stupid.

I would welcome any of them here really.
I also saw Colston is a potential cap casualty.

Pass on Byrd.

Junior Galette
$1,250,000
$12,500,000
$1,600,000
$12,500,000
$100,000
$0
$15,450,000
If they pay him the 12,500,000 it will total this. They will never pay him the bonus though

It definitely takes a special kind of stupid to mess up this bad. Brees is going to have to help bail them out by restructuring.

It is impossible to not get under the cap.
The NFL will come in and start voiding contracts until they are under the cap.

Obviously the Saints can lose him before he is found guilty. Adrian Peterson was suspended before his child abuse trial began.
