IF we decide the pass rusher class is deep enough to take one in the second round, then maybe we should consider something a bit different in the first round (I'm bracing myself for the howls of protest, but bear with me...)

How about Shaq Thompson ? This guy makes plays happen and would be a big improvement for us at linebacker. Read this and tell me why you wouldn't want him in teal...

Could be our answer to Bobby Wagner ?

If Ray, Fowler and Gregory all come with question marks and we can get someone like Orchard in round two then why not go for the big playmaker ?

And I'm expecting to get replies along the lines of "only if we trade down" - but can you really justify that ? Why is he a good player, worth picking at, say 8, but not at 3 ? (Assuming there is no-one we want more at 3)
I don't think he translates well as an NFL linebacker. He's not strong enough. Too small. He will probably wind up playing safety.
He wants to be considered a SLB, but he is sized to be a WLB. He definitely is a coverage LB and because of all these issues, may fall to Rd 2 and be available at Pick 36.

I think he may end up a SS. Great athlete, just not sure where he fits in.

Sounds like Telvin Smith. Like Smith, I think Shaq will be able to play either OLB spot and be a pro bowler with his crazy athleticism. Not to mention RB an S. I don't think there is any way he makes it to the 2nd especially after he lights it up ant the combine
Not to mention he was rated the number 1 safety coming out of High School followed by Landon Collins
I would love him in the second but I think he is a bit of a reach at 3.
What question marks does Fowler have?

I don't really know to be honest. I feel like he will only gain momentum as the draft approaches.

This.
Most mock drafts I've seen recently have him going in the top half of the first round. If we trade back in the first, he's someone I hope we target. Like we had with Stroud and Henderson, if you have beasts in the DL you can afford to have faster undersized LBs.
