The thing is the Jags most likely will not spend all their cap space and will most likely have the room to sign players that are cut after the draft and before OTAs.
I was reading up on some Oesher columns and feel confident in saying we will sign a TE, RT, OLB. I'm just hoping the TE isn't Marcedes Lewis 2.0(Jermaine Gresham). Seems like Malcolm Smith is a pretty strong possibility and Free will be pursued if Bulaga is gone. We should definitely get better. Thinking 6-10 at worst with a couple of good signings and another solid draft. Then we truly rise.
Coopers not even the best WR in this class lol
I want :
RT Bulaga
WR Cobb
TE Cameron
Rd2 Maxx Williams TE Minnesota
Rd3or4: Mike Davis RB South Carolina

Depends on your view point and your perspective and preference. A lot of folks are on Kevin White's bandwagon now after a breakout 2014 performance but he was nobody in 2013. Amari Cooper on the other hand has been relevant over the last three seasons despite playing on an offense that has been mostly known for turning out runningbacks. And I think, eventhough he's not as explosive as Julio Jones. His production was right up there when he left, if not, far more productive and superior. He ran some really fluid routes this year. Made play after play after play. He's legit at the next level. Parker out of Louisville is another guy that folks are starting look at as well but when you compare both, White's and Parker's overall body of work, ability, consistency, and production next to Cooper's. It's not a contest in my eyes. He's clear cut better than both of them. I wouldn't mind Caldwell using a 2nd day pick on another receiver as well. I also really like Greenberry out of Houston late and also Harper out of Fresno St.
This scenerio, if it comes to fruition, would be exciting to see. I agree with your position groups to be addressed in free agency. The most likely individual selection would be Wisniewski, due to the Greg Olsen connection. Bowanko had a good rookie year, but he's not the caliber player of Wisniewski. Besides that, both these guys are versatile and can be moved to guard. One thing we have learned is that you never have too much depth on the offensive line.
It would be very surprising to me if we don't target one of the elite free agent tight ends. I have no preferences between Thomas, Cameron and Clay as they all would be major upgrades. Cameron's concussions do worry me a little, but if he checks out physically he'd be a great addition.
I have a feeling that both Maclin and Bulaga will return to the Eagles and Packers, respectively, however the Jaguars will likely target the best available right tackle. The guys you mention would be good alternatives although Free's age is a negative. However, they could draft a right tackle in the mid-rounds and let Marrone develop him until Free no longer is worthy of being a starter. Free would be a stabilizing force and should have at least a couple more good years left. Orlando Franklin also intrigues me, but I'm not sure about his ability to be an effective right tackle since he's been a guard most recently. Brennan Williams is the wildcard so hopefully the Jaguars will hit the lottery with this inexpensive acquisition like they did with Jimmy Smith (probably a pipe dream).
Instead of Maclin, I see the Jags going after a less expensive veteran like Washington or Royal. I have high hopes from the rookie trio of Robinson, Lee and Hurns so I'd rather spend the money on the best available safety in free agency like Rahim Moore.
Your 2nd and 3rd picks (Williams and Johnson) would be amazing. It is possible that both will make it to the Jags 2nd and 3rd round selections depending on how
they do at the combine. For the Jags sake, I hope they don't do too great or they'll never be available. Of the 2, I would love to see Duke Johnson be a Jag. If he's not there in the 3rd, I'd be quite content with either Coleman or Abdullah since one of these three has at least a 50-50 chance of falling. Since the Jags should get a stud tight end in free agency, I'd probably prefer a blocking tight end in the mid rounds like the guy from Ohio State or possibly Jesse James from PSU. The 2nd round should be reserved for the best linebacker available. To me, the BAP in round 2 is likely to be a linebacker (Perryman or Kendricks most likely) and this pick would be difficult for Caldwell to pass on as it would give us a formidable linebacking corps to back up a solid line.
Thanks for your great scenerio,
I don't think Malcolm Smith is a target because his best position is WLB and the Jags have Telvin Smith playing there. Can't see Malcolm Smith as the Otto, so I just don't see Malcolm Smith as a Free Agent target for the Jags.
I could see Doug Free being a target, but Joseph Barksdale could also be a target.
The Jags will throw everything including the kitchen sink to get Brian Bulaga, so now do the Packers pony up or replace Bulaga with Daryl Williams in Rd 2 of the draft?
There is a good chance the Packers pay Cobb and let Bulaga pursue Free Agency.
If the Packers had any sense, which they do, you let Cobb walk and you keep Bulaga. Cobb doesn't do you any good if you can't keep Rodgers in the pocket and on his feet healthy to find him. They still have Nelson there as well and they've had a knack for bringing guys up in the system slowly.
If Randall Cobb lands on the market, the Jags are on him like "White on Rice!"

So would you take Cooper at 3?
To me, it's Williams or Gregory. Cooper is good but when there is a discussion as to who's the best WR in this class (which there really seems to be no consensus here) you don't select him at 3.
We'll see. He's coming off a great season. I think his best fit would be somewhere like Seattle or Carolina personally.

I would. Absolutely at three. And wouldn't blink or think twice about it. If we don't take him he won't fall no further than St. Louis.
Losing teams like the Jags can never have enough money to "turn things around" FAs worth a damn will go to other teams for less money. The ones you can get by overpaying most likely have their best playing days behind them.
The draft is your best option for getting blue chip talent. Free agency, you need to be looking at the young 2nd tier guys with something to prove. Remember Welker when he left Miami? That's the kind of guy you're looking for.
Not entirely crazy on Julius. He's asking for top TE money and pretty confident he is a product of Peyton. The rest seem decent.
As much as I want Max Williams I don't think he will be there in round 2
How we become an offensive juggernaut:
- Blake throws 10 more TDs and 5 fewer INTs than last season
- J Blackmon comes back and stays on the field.
- O-Line improves at least marginally
Quote:I think bawanko played better than a lot of people give him credit for. He had a struggling left guard for most of the year, a rookie right guard who got better as the year went on, and then the tackles with a rookie Qb to add that in. Tbh going back and watching tape Bawanko was more than capable and the only knock was that he did get pushed back a couple times. I'd like to think that an offseason will bulk him up and we'll have a steal from the 6th
Here's my issue with this: Even if it plays out and Bowanko turns in to a good center, we are one injury away from sending scrub Mc nobody out there.
Dave tried to give a 50 million dollar contract to a center last offseason. I find it hard to believe he's all good with Bowanko after a 71 sack season.
I'll be surprised if they don't sign or draft a guy.
Alot of great points and insight here
I'm from Wisconsin and I can tell you that neither Cobb or Bulaga will make it to FA. Packers have $25M in cap space and they will either cut or restructure the contract of Julius Peppers, so that is more than enough for them to keep both players.

Williams if he's there at 3. If not that means either Winston or Mariota are still on the board and I want multiple picks for them. We could trade down to 6 and probably still get Fowler there.
