Quote:If Mariota falls to us we might have three teams calling. Philadelphia for obvious reasons. Arizona if Arians likes the kid enough. And then you've got Buffalo who might want him as well. We'll see. It just depends. I wouldn't mind swapping our 1st round picks around with Buffalo in exchange for their 2nd round pick and next year's 1st round pick or just the 2nd round pick and CJ Spiller at RB.
I recall Buffalo trading their first rounder to Cleveland for this guy named Sammy Watkins. Also, hell no to the 3rd overall pick for Buffalo's 2nd rounder and spiller. I'd rather have DRob at this point in their careers.

I agree that spiller is not worth it.
I may have been off on Spiller anyhow. I think he's a free agent in a month or so. Not sure if Rex Ryan will want to keep him there.
I believe that C.J. Spiller has voided the final year of his contract much like Tyson Alualu did and thus Spiller will be an UFA within a months time.
Rumors say that he is headed to the Jets.
Quote:We pretty much guaranteed Leonard Williams or a boatload of picks.
No we didn't. Many posters said the Titans will pick Williams and only the Eagles would give us "a boatload of picks."
At this point, there is no reason for anyone to expect anything.
i think we will probably have bad luck in the draft because i ran over a black cat today on my way to work.

Considering the Bills gave their 2015 first to the Browns, the scenario you presented ultimately has no steam as Spiller has no relative value and the Bills future first rounders are essentially worthless.
This morning I was listening to Mel Kiper on Sirius radio and he pretty much guaranteed that the Titans will not take a q.b. in round 1.. His sources indicated they liked what they saw in the rookie q.b. from LSU and are likely to take Leonard Williams. If true, I would be disappointed but that does possibly mean the Jags could trade back to a team wanting the one remaining potential franchise q.b. My preference would be the Jets since the Jags might still be able to get Dante Fowler in addition to an extra 2nd rounder.
Quote:No we aren't. If Williams goes 2, why would someone trade with us when the only team that may take a QB will be the Jets at 6? Raiders arent going to take one and Skins may not either, if anything the Raiders and maybe the Skins will be getting calls once said QB starts to fall.
Exactly. It's going to be:
1. TAM - QB J. Winston
2. TEN - DL L. Williams
3. JAC - One of the LEO's (Gregory, Ray, or Fowler Jr.)
Nobody will give Caldwell the time of day, much less a boat load of picks. They know the Jags won't take Mariota, and the Jets can just wait.
If anybody gets a boatload of picks, it will be Oakland from Philly. The Eagles won't trade a bunch of picks and a future 1st rounder to the Redskins, who are in their division and at #5, just before the Jets pick at #6. If Philly pulls the trigger on the trade, it will be one pick before Washington, and just after us, so of course we miss out again. Plus, Oakland is so starved for talent, they may take a little less than other teams to gain a few extra picks.
The best thing that can happen for the Jags is the Titans fake just enough interest in Mariota that Philly trades up to #2 to get him, which leaves Williams for us, or a possible trade for multiple picks if another team wants Williams badly enough. And that still wouldn't be ideal, because the Titans are in our division and they would now be loaded with picks and another future 1st rounder.
Quote:If someone wants a QB bad enough, they aren't going to wait for one to fall past us. They will come up to get him.
A team with quarterback problems only needs to jump over the Jets, so the Redskins are more likely to get calls from other quarterback-needy teams. We will get calls from teams that want Amari Cooper.
If someone trades in to the top 3 to draft Amari Cooper I'll eat my shoe.

If a team wants Mariota they need to secure pick 2, 3, or 4 while that team is on the clock. Those teams will decide what they are willing to give up to move higher in the draft and the picks will go to the highest team which accepts their offer. No one will try to get cute and focus all of their energy on any one spot, they will all be after the all important QB.

You have no idea how trading works.
You trade up as high as you can so no other team trades up to that spot.

This made me LOL.
Normally I would agree, but as long as the Raiders have a pick in the draft, dumb things can happen...

I know this: Sometimes teams are very limited in what they can do and have to minimize the number of spots they move up. For example, a team might not have a second round pick. Is moving up to #3 worth giving up the 2016 first round pick?
I like how every year is always the weakest for QB's, and next year is always going to be the best.

Not true. Everyone said the current draft class was great for quarterbacks when five were selected in the first round in 1999. There also was a lot of talk about the 2011 draft class being good for quarterbacks. Four of the first 12 picks were quarterbacks that year. Did you forget there were six first round quarterbacks in 1983? That one was called the strongest quarterback class ever IIRC.

Recently, though, every year has been "the worst" for QB drafting, then the following year is somehow supposedly worse than that.
There wasn't actually much talk about the 2011 class being great. The top two QBs (Newton and Gabbs) were thought to be very good pro prospects, but even those two were far from sure thing prospects. There were concerns about Newton's character and ability to adapt to a pro scheme, and concerns about Gabbs' level of competition and unusual collegiate offense, IIRC. Locker was seen as a reach going before Gabbs, as he'd been pegged as a later first-round prospect, and I don't know that anyone outside of Minnesota thought that Ponder wasn't a huge reach at 12. The Vikings got scared into drafting him a round earlier than he should have gone because they saw the run on QBs and didn't want to lose the player they felt was the last one.
1999 and 1983 are so far back that they've irrelevant to this discussion. 2013, 2014 and 2015 are/were all pegged as "the worst QB class in recent memory" by draftniks in the months leading up to the draft.
Eh, the only people to call last year's QB class as "the worst QB class in recent memory" were more than likely overreacting to Teddy's Pro Day workout.
The Rams seem to be content with Sam Bradford.
The Bears could move Cutler possibly as part of a trade with the Titans, where Cutler is a throw in.
The Bears at 7 might cause the Jets to enter the fray.
The mess will occur, if the Bucs take Mariota and Winston is the QB that falls.
The Eagles will not be in the market, perhaps the Texans might, but would Tennessee trade with Houston?
If Mariota falls, then the Eagles and Foles could be in play.
Can't see the Titans passing on more picks versus picking Williams.
Leonard Williams is a great player but the Titans have too many holes on their roster to worry about taking a single player over several good players.
