Quote:Look at the mocks. How many of them have Brandon Sherff being picked in the top five? Look at the draft prospect rankings. How many of them have Sherff as one of the top five names on that list? If the answer to either question is zero, he is a huge reach at #3.
Mock drafts and internet draft rankings mean absolutely nothing. I can make (and have made) mock drafts and I have zero credibility. Have you ever seen an actual draft play out anything like mock drafts aside from a few picks? Each year teams are criticized for "reaching" on a pick. Each year many of these picks go on to produce very well. Goes to show why the people sitting around making mock drafts are doing so from their couch and not an NFL team suite.
Are we gonna trade Joeckel for a 4th and 5th round pick?
He is a RT/G that would be a huge reach, unless we trade back and end up with two 1st round picks then no
Quote:They aren't going to run strictly a ZBS anyway. I think he fits at RT well.
Everyone wants Bulaga in FA but Scherff is a better player with a higher ceiling coming out of Iowa.
Bryan Bulaga is already elite. We need some guys who don't have to learn the basics about playing in the NFL. Last year we saw what happens when 9 of 11 starters are playing under rookie contracts.

I was specifically referring to mock drafts by guys like Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah, not average football fans.
Quote:I would be beyond angry if he is the pick.
same here, not gonna happen
They're saying he is eventually going to be a guard.
Value pre draft means nothing. If Caldwell has done his research and thinks he is good enough for an early pick, so be it.

The same goes for them. Compare their mock drafts to any results in past years.

Value pre-draft means everything Before the draft is when Caldwell must figure out who has the best value at #3.
Quote:I think too many people get hung up on draft position versus player position. It used to be that you were insane to draft anyone but a QB or DE in the top five. If we have a glaring need for OL help and the guy obviously has the tools, why not? This draft is overall pretty weak with all but a few LBs, DEs, linemen. Should the Jags draft a high prospect in hopes of upgrading the defensive side that has already started to develop or draft for obvious need for a dumpster fire OL?
This is a very good point. It always surprises me when people say we can't pick "player x" because it's wrong to pick a player of his position with "pick y".
If we have a clear need at a position, why should we limit ourselves and avoid taking the best player in that position ? Or should we wait until the top tier players in that position are gone before making our move ?
I'm not advocating picking a long snapper in the first round, and I accept that a pass rusher is also needed, but I think the OLine is important enough to be worthy of a top 5 pick.
Quote:If he is not exclusively a right tackle, I don't want him. We need a player who has done nothing else his entire football career to truly upgrade the position.
Personally I'd love the pick it's suicide to expect the same group of 5 to magically improve but I don't see it happening

I think it's suicide to add another rookie player to such a young offense. We need some veterans on that side of the ball.
I'd be surprised if the first three picks weren't used soley on the defense side.

Why should he waste his time? He's got all the mock drafts he needs? Honestly why is he even working right now?

I really wish that was the answer, but statistically, the Jags fared worse with a more veteran presence on the O-line. (comparing 2012-2013-2014) I'm still of the mindset that this thing gets built for the long hall. My personal opinion is that we wasted a lot on the last veteran FA on the O-line for little benefit if a benefit at all. I would be highly disappointed if we drafted defense with the first three picks when offense has such glaring needs.
