2 Carl Davis

3 Laken Tomlinson G Duke

4 David Johnson. Rb Northern Iowa
Is it just me, or does this draft seem very boring compared to recent years' drafts? I'm having a hard time feeling excited about the top 20 picks. Hopefully Leonard Williams is still on the board when the Jags pick. He's the safest pick. I think the Jaguars have a good stable of young "leos" to avoid gambling with that position at the top. I'm sure another decent player in free agency or even in the mid rounds can be added there.

1. Leonard Williams, DT/DE ...best non-QB player in the draft.

2. Shaq Thompson, OLB ...playmaking LB, too much value here to pass up.

3. Gerod Holliman, S ...ball-hawking safety that can create turnovers.

4. Clive Walford, TE ...impressed at senior bowl, too much value here to pass up.

edit note: I just looked closely at the OP picks.  He's got good taste...

It prob has more to do with the fact that we are not going QB, which is always exciting

This draft is deeper then last years draft, which was deeper then the year before
Rd 1 - Leonard Williams - DT - USC

Rd 2- Jordan Phillips - NT - Oklahoma

Rd 3 - Chris Hackett - FS - TCU

Rd 4 - Clive Walford - TE - Miami

It is the 2nd Pick that is so intriguing.

I really liked Shaq Thompson, Malcolm Brown and Carl Davis but I selected Jordan Philips because he just could turn out to be the ROCK around which the entire defense is built. The man is a MONSTER and impossible to move. He has had some back issues in the past and that is something that has to be examined during the Combine, but you put this guy in the middle and have SenDerrick Marks on one side and Leonard Williams on the other, with say a Jerry Hughes or JPP coming off the edge and the Jags Dline becomes fearsome.

1. Leonard Williams is on top because his good ability.

Here are my selections:

1.  Dante Fowler, OTTO, Florida

2.  Duke Johnson, RB, Miami

3.  Nick O'Leary, TE, FSU

4.  Ladarius Gunter, CB, Miami

In round 1 the Jaguars select the defensive player who would provide the greatest impact for the team.  The Jaguars have a good DL, but very little at OTTO.  Fowler has played a lot of pass coverage at Florida and has the physical skill set to rush the passer.  In rounds 2 and 3 the Jaguars select offensive playmakers who would make Bortles more effective and help the offense score more points.  In round 4 the Jaguars add a player to strengthen the team's pass defense.

Based on who is available at each of our picks:

R1:Leonard Williams DT-USC

R2:Maxx Williams TE-Minesota

R3:Chris Hackett FS-TCU

R4:Ty Sambrailo OT-Colorado State

Leonard Williams is obviously the dominant pass rusher and a solid run blocker as well. Either he replaces Marks due to his injury or he plays alongside Marks creating a very dominant middle of the line. Maxx Williams gives us a franchise TE that will be Bortles best friend for many, many, many years. In the end, Chris Hackett may be the 2nd best safety out of this class behind Collins. Hackett is an interception machine and for the most part a sure tackler. He would allow Cyp to play closer to the line improving his ability and production. Any time you can improve 2 positions with 1 pick, yes please. Down the line, Sambrailo will be one of the top 3 OT of this draft. He is a project at this point, but has a mountain of an upside. Even as a project, some classify him as a 2nd round pick, so taking him in the 4th round is a no-brainer.

We address the defensive line, dominant pass rusher with the best in the draft. We address TE with the best in the draft. FS with the best FS in the draft, IMO. And we address RT with what could be one of the best RT down the line. All 4 top needs done.

I would LOVE these first four rounds for the Jaguars.
Regarding Ty Sambrailo, it was clear to me watching the Bowl game where Colorado State played Utah, that Ty Sambrailo had some work to do on his game since Nate Orchard took him to school. Then came the Senior Bowl and his technique was such that he kept allowing the inside move to overpower him.

Still, Sambrailo, Ogbuehi and perhaps Humphries (from Florida) all fit the ZBS for Right Tackles, where the teams is looking for more athletic OTs versus the Power Tackles like Daryl Williams and Donovan Smith.

So here is the rub, I think the Jags have to draft one of these three in either Rd 3 or 4. It could be that all three will be drafted before the end of Rd 3, in which case the Jags may have to consider Sean Hickey in Rd 4 (Syracuse - Doug Marrone connection).

In my mind, both Sambrailo and Ogbuehi both need to get stronger and need better coaching.

This is why I think the Jags may sign a stop gap ORT in Free Agency, either Doug Free or more likely Joseph Barksdale. If either Free or Barksdale were signed to three year deals then by the 3rd year, I think either Sambailo or Ogbuehi would be ready. Ogbuehi clearly will not be ready to play next year coming off an ACL injury.

I see both Sambrailo and Ogbuehi are ranked as Rd 2 selections, but I think that is too high for either of them. There value is too high to see them fall out of Rd 3, although it may be possible.

Good thing about athletic OTs is that they can be converted to OG pretty easily.

Since it is fun to play, let's play

Rd 1: Leonard Williams - DE - USC

Rd 2: Tevin Coleman - RB - Indiana

Rd 3: Cedric Ogbuehi - ORT - Texas A&M

Rd 4: Clive Walford - TE - Miami

Leonard Williams is probably the best player in the draft. Coleman is the type of Franchise RB that the Jags need to get their running game going. Ogbuehi will take another year before he is ready to play but he is worth selecting and developing over time. Walford would be th4e 3rd TE and ultimately the compliment to the pass receiving TE that the Jags get in Free Agency which I hope is Jordan Cameron of the Browns.

More weapons for the Offense while the Defense gets a big lift with the 1st pick.
