Quote:Torn labrums are awful.  If he was on the lines it would at a minimum delay his return for about 2 years.  Boselli was never the same after tearing both of his.

Wasn't the Boselli case a medical error?
Quote:The Seahawks may have to start next season without Earl Thomas.

He'll probably be done in another year or so. Shoulder problems for an already undersized guy doesn't bode well.

Even if it was, the tear was from play.

I had to have a torn labrum repaired in my left shoulder. It was not a fun experience.

He is only 26 IIRC. I wouldn't write him off yet.

Does anyone know another safety with this injury and how his career was affected after that?

Age is kinda irrelevant when your job is to throw your busted shoulder into guys who outweigh you by 20 or 30 pounds.

That is not his job. He is supposed to wrap the receiver up to bring him down. Maybe Thomas will change how he tackles people if that is possible.

There you go again.
Patriots Linebacker Dont'a Hightower also played in Super Bowl XLIX with a torn labrum. He is scheduled for off season surgery as well. CB Jason Verrett of the Chargers had the same type of injury this season. Not sure what his prognosis for recovery is though.

Ed Reed played with a torn labrum, but I think that was his last season in the NFL. In 2013 CB Dee Milliner had a torn labrum surgically repaired in March and was able to participate in the Jets training camp that summer.  Others who have had torn labrums include QB's Matt Hasselbeck and Rich Gannon. Gannon missed a full season recovering (1994) but he played just as well, if not better, after the torn labrum was repaired. Not sure about Hasselbeck's when his injury occurred, and if he needed a prolonged recovery.

The injury seems to be fairly common. As long as the proper precautions in terms of restricted movement and rehabilitation after surgery are followed, there shouldn't be any long term impact on a players ability to fully recover from this type of injury.

Most elite players would have to be hog tied before the game and drug off the field during the game when it comes to the SB...

NH3...

I know, but the Seahawks knew what happened to Kam Chancellor. Allowing him to play with a torn MCL after initially telling him not to will never make any sense because that injury automatically puts any player on injured reserve.

The Seahawks obviously are going to have a hard time defending their NFC title without Chancellor all year and possibly without Thomas the first four games.

An MCL tear doesn't always land someone on IR.  People are affected differently.
