Ann Mara, New York Giants' Matriarch, 1929-2015

Ann Mara, who was often called “The First Lady of Football" and was one of the most influential figures in Giants history, the matriarch of the franchise’s founding family and a woman beloved throughout the National Football League and the New York sports community, passed away early today. She was 85.

Very sad news.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Mara Family.   Ann Mara will be greatly missed but continue to be an inspiration for many, many people.

When it comes to doing what's best for the NFL,  the Mara Family has led the way.  Highlighted by the late Wellington Mara being a proponent of TV Revenue sharing back in the 1960's,  which made it possible for small market teams such as the Green Bay Packers to survive and prospect.    And for the eventual dream of the Jacksonville Jaguars becoming a reality.

In the present day,  John Mara is the strongest proponent of not expanding the amount of teams in the playoffs.

I wish the NFL had much more ownership like the Mara Family and much less like Jerry Jones and Stan Kroenke.
