Quote:I was thinking LDE. Their LEO and DTs spots are fine as is. At LEO, I doubt anyone is going to come in and knock Clemons out of his starting role, although I'd welcome the addition of depth at the spot.

As for the overall question, I can see four new starters at LDE, Otto, CB and S.
Are you serious? Clemons was mediocre at best last year, and he's 34 years old.  I hope the Jags go after someone like Hughes in FA, or draft a LEO in the 1st or 2nd round.  That's easily one of the spots that needs to be upgraded.

On opening day, it is far more likely we have a different defensive tackle because of the Marks injury.
No - we need a dominant LEO to make the defense work.   Clemons is not good, and Branch isn't exactly lighting things up either.  Branch will most likely play out his contract and then depart, Clemons could easily be upgraded in either FA or the draft.  JPP, Hughes in FA, possibly Dupree from Kentucky in the 2nd round of the draft would all be quality upgrades.
2:

New FA Safety

1st round Defensive Lineman
Two or three. I hope we add to our DL and linebacking corps as well as sign McCourty

Clemons was part of a defensive front that the was near the top of the league in sacks all year, and he put up 8 sacks and 4 FFs himself. He's also shown in years past the ability to reach double digit sacks. I just don't see him being beaten out that easily.

I think maybe 2 at LB. Call me crazy but I think Poz has a chance of not starting. Depending on how this offseason goes. I think Caldwell is going to impress and surprise most of us.

Maybe FS. I dont see a change at DL. Marks will be back. Unless they draft Williams then yes. And there could be a change at CB. But I think they like Colvin so lets see how they play him. Blackmon at the nickel is where they have they're confidence at so Colvin might start on the outside possibly with Ball or Gratz moving down to dime.

Agree I don't see any rookie coming in and taking Clemons spot in game 1.
I would be surprised if Clemons was even on this roster. Rookie/Branch/Davis in some order is what I would expect.

Hmmm. Clem had 8 sacks, 11 hurries and 4 FF in a rotational role.

Nah, I don't see them tossing him aside just yet unless the rookie (that they probably draft)  is really ready to rock right out of the gate.

Yea I dont get why people are saying he's not good or should be cut, we have had a terrible pass rush for about ten years until last year, and now we have a nice rotation and people wanna dump players.

Yes if we sign somebody like JPP he may be cut but a rookie not gonna be worth cutting him right away
I'd say around 3.

Definitely FS. Otto.

And a DL somewhere.

I think Puz will come back and start but will lose a lot of snaps in Nickel/3rd down situations.

I think Clemons will be similar. Starter in name, but a greatly reduced role by midseason. He was very up and down last season and 3 of his 8 sacks came one game (Vs Colts).

FS for sure. I count CB for Colvin.  A new LEO more than likely will be a 'starter' but there will be a lot of rotation.  One or two new starters at LB is likely too.

I think we're rather set at two of the LB spots with Telvin and Poz. Hayes, on the other hand, will have his worth cut out for him if he's to remain the third starting LB.

FS and DT are the positions that will probably change in 2015. Poz will return as the MLB while the OTTO will be manned by J.T. If we draft an LB high (first or second rounds), my count will advance to three starters...

NH3...
FS and OTTO. I think Abry Jones starts for Marks. Colvin and Gratz will battle for the left corner spot
I think we get Leonard Williams who starts at LDE.  I think we also get a new starting FS in free agency plus an OTTO (either in free agency or maybe with our second round draft pick).  I guess if Marks isn't healthy, we could have four on opening day, but I would consider that person just there temporarily.

I am going to go with 2, Potentially a 3rd but that depends on a position battle and who wins it. so definitely 2.... anywhere between 2-4 is my guess

LDE and Otto

Seemed like Jones was rotating w/ Miller most of the time last year while Hood was the guy coming in for Marks fairly often.

You think they'll change that?
I say, we need an injection of talent at all LB spots. T.Smith has great potential, Poz and Hayes are serviceable. But we need at least 3 new guys to challenge for spots or groom for spots.

Then a good to average FS to take responsibility off of Cyprien.

Another young CB, DT, DE.

I see 7 new peeps, in backup or starter roles, realisticly 3 new starters.
