One good draft if it goes well, we trade down a few times and pick up quality slots. If not, four years with a new coach, rebuild, FA and ongoing drafts.

We are either getting close to busting through or headed for 3 more years of crude.  This team is talent starved and in a little bit of neutral.  I think as far as playing like a team, the defense is solid free agency and drafting away from top 15 performance.  The offense will need BB5 to climb up the rankings with core receiver development.

Basically. If Bortles doesn't take a huge step forward it doesn't really matter what the rest of the team does.

True but with a top 15 defense we will move closer to .500 football.  That isn't exactly what we want as fans but it would be something.
Im just here so I wont get fined.

Every team is 15 above average players away

If you add 15 above average players to any roster, that roster is pretty stacked... unless the roster is in shambles.

If you take the bottom 15 of any 53 man roster and replace them with "above average" guys.... they probably win the Superbowl, give or take a QB/Coach combo.

Obviously we can't know for certain but assuming development of our youth

Long term answer at Leo

Long term answer at mlb

Otto

free safety

punt returner

id like to see our rb core stay the same this year unless there is a gem in the 4th or below but i think eventually we will need a feature back.

Right tackle

centre (i like bowanko but i would prefer a vet at centre with him on the bench til he replaces beadles as our pulling guard

2 tight ends

vet wide receiver

so 10 and i also think we can address at least 7 of these in free agency and the draft
I think we're a head coach away. I'm still iffy on Caldwell.

I don't thank coach is problem and I think Caldwell is pretty good. People blamed JDR,Mularkey and Now Gus clearly it's more then the HBC!
Quote:I'd say 5 above average players away from competing for division title - and 8 top-notch players away from super bowl contention.
Pretty much word for word I was going to say

Also add, that we have a few players that can turn into the first 5 above average players. Bortles, Robinson, Robinson, Linder, t.smith, Colvin, to name a few.

How can a team be both talent starved and close to busting through?
IF and that is a BIG IF, the Jags select the Right 15 New Player Additions in both Free Agency and the Draft then the Jags could have enough talent to contend for the Playoffs and for me that is all that I ask.

It should be noted that Gus said that he envisions no more than 15 New Player additions this off-season.

The amount of people saying Bradley sucks for not doing better with this team are the ultimate level of stupid. Let's look at the main contributors for the team as well as players expected to be future starters and you tell me if you think anybody could succeed with this lineup. Let's see Rookie QB, 2nd year RB, Rookie WR, Rookie WR, Rookie WR, 2nd year LT, Rookie C, Rookie RG, Rookie OLB. 2nd year CB. 2nd year CB, Rookie CB, 2nd year FS. 2nd year SS.

Do people even realize what Bradley is working with before they judge him for not having the team at playoff level? On offense you have a Rookie QB throwing to rookie WRs being protected by a rookie filled o-line and the best rb is only in his 2nd year. On defense, the entire secondary is littered with rookies and 2nd year players. The only unit that pretty much everyone was mostly satisfied with was the d-line which is the only unit that has a decent amount of players that have been given time to develop in the NFL. I mean even Bill Belicheat couldn't hope to succeed with the team as it stands now. A lot of these young players have shown decent potential and given time could be really solid NFL players given time. To say Bradley sucks for not getting a team of rookies to win week in and week out is just ludicrous.

This is a loaded question...

Weve got guys with potential to gravitate to real good or elite players if the cards turn out....So any answer can be heavily skewed if these players pan out (Bowanko, Linder, Bortles, Lee, Robinson, Hurns, Cyprien, Telvin... just to name a few) These guys are the core of this team and have been very solid in a year where most were developing.

Maybe im drinking the Kool-Aid but honestly if we can draft a solid LEO or Linebacker in draft (Williams, Gregory or Fowler),  Pick up a FS and a TE to start

Than add some depth pieces for RT competition and a Linebacker I would be very optimistic about our chances....

I don't feel like there is any major MAJIC NUMBER, Just holes filled in the proper positions with potential to grow

Cyprien has drastic improvement to make if he's going to be good.

Jonathan Cyprien actually had a good year last season, especially the last 4-5 games of the year. Wait until the Jaguars find a "true" single high FS with legitimate range, it will allow Cyp to play closer to the line of scrimmage (where he's most comfortable) , he has the tools to be a dominant "in the box" safety.

Do you think he meant 15 players is all you can realistically expect to upgrade in a single off-season, or that only 15 players need to be upgraded?
13 sounds right. definitely wouldn't hurt.

The fact remains one player can make several look much better. like a qb.

My point is 5 great players can make 8 others look above average.
I'd say we are an elite QB away from post-season contention.

Throw in a hand-full of above average players at the important spots and who knows what can happen, but an elte QB is the biggest factor in the equation.

Quote:How can a team be both talent starved and close to busting through?

We have raw talent so on the offensive side of the ball it could turn around.  The defense is close to be a contributor.  So therefor close to busting through but talent starved as we currently sit.  I don't think 2015 is going to be the break through year.
