Truth be told, it kind of makes sense for him.
If you believe all of the hype out there, Bortles was very well thought of leading up to the draft, so if Gase comes here and can't do anything with him then he was simply a product of Manning's talent. Now if he goes to Chicago and can't do anything with Cutler... well, Jay is just a bum and can't nobody fix that bum.

The X factor is will the Bears elect to retain Jay Cutler for at least one more season?
If they do and Cutler becomes much less error prone, Adam Gase will probably land a HC position in 2016.

I think they're virtually stuck with Cutler until 2017 due to the salary cap. Whether or not they start him is another question.

A key date regarding Jay Cutler is March 12. If Cutler remains on their roster beyond that day, $ 10 million of his 2016 salary under the terms of his contract becomes guaranteed.
It's more likely than not Cutler will remain with the Bears beyond March 12 because of the ramifications of the 2015 salary cap. If I was in the Bears position though, I would take the huge loss on this season's salary cap. At least this way, they wouldn't have Cutler hanging over the franchise with a new regime in place.

He'll get the opportunity to show how good of a coach he actually is now. He won't have Peyton Manning to lean on for style points.

I don't think Gase will get many looks at HC, he has earned a reputation of poor interviews. This should be a good litmus test for him though as an OC.

Bad interview or not, if he's able to prove his value as a coach/coordinator, he'll get consideration.
