Quote:Beastmode? You must be watching the wrong RB. That terms suggests a tough RB who can bruise his way through defenders. Ajayi is about running around defenders as he's afraid to be touched. Now that's ok as even FT was the type to run around defenders, although he'd bruise his way when if he had to. The thing is, for being that kind of runner, Ajayi lacks the kind of cutting ability you see in great RBs, and
in the 40 he ran a mere 4.57. I seriously don't understand all this love for Ajayi, and I get the feeling he's going to get hurt and bust out in the NFL. I just can't shake that feeling about him.

And on the flipside, from
CBS's NFL Draft site:
Quote:WEAKNESSES: Has added bulk to his frame and runs hard, but lacks ideal power to consistently run through arm tackles as an inside runner. Needs to break more tackles and not allow ankle biters to bring him down. Relies too much on bouncing runs outside and will get himself in trouble trying to string runs out. Plays too fast at times and needs to better avoid bodies in tight spaces. Good, but not great, speed and can be caught from behind. Prefers to run away from contact at times and will lose yardage. Needs to improve his ball security with 12 career fumbles (seven lost). Appears to wear down late in games, taking a lot of hits in Boise State's offense with a heavy volume of touches the past two seasons. Needs work in pass protection with his technique and strength to sustain both lacking. Some past character issues that need vetted, including an Oct. 2011 arrest for stealing sweatpants from a Wal-Mart near campus (plead guilty to misdemeanor, served five days in jail and eight hours of classes) -- banned from 2011 bowl game, suspended for the 2012 season opener and was forced to work his way back into the good graces of the coaches. Shredded his right knee in Oct. 2011 and has dealt with other minor injuries. Soccer was his first love and he considered going that direction after high school to play overseas.
I actually like Ajayi but I don't see the Lynch comparison.
Link me to the highlights of him "mashing in short yardage" because I've watched a bunch of them and haven't seen any of this.
How bout we all just agree to no Ajayi (and preferably no nonGurley RB) at 36?
I don't know if we've talked about him in here anywhere, but for the #36 pick what about C Cameron Irving?

Erving is a solid center prospect, but he tanked at tackle and has, iirc, never played guard. The coaching staff seems pretty comfortable with Bowanko going forward, so I doubt they'd invest such a high pick in a pure center.

I think you'll find it hard to find "mashing short yardage" on anyone's highlight reel. It doesn't make good highlights (the video-makers seem to prefer the long runs). But I think if you watch him, you'll see evidence of him breaking tackles further down the field.

I think this is the salient point going forward. Sooo many people want OL upgrades, but Dave made it pretty clear in more than one offseason interview that RT was really the only position he saw as a weakness and he was quite happy with the other 4.
I wouldn't mind Erving I do think he would be an upgrade on Bowanko, but I am pretty sure the starting OL is already set for this year. I would expect some OL depth later in the draft but not one that would come right in an replace anyone projected to start right now.
I think the key thing for our OLine now is experience.
I would love us to draft a monster like Scherff, but it's clear that DC doesn't want any more rookies at the moment. And he's probably right.

I still have enough reservations on the left side of the line that I'd consider spending a second-round pick on a guard or tackle if the right guy is there, but Caldwell isn't likely to throw in the towel on his very first pick or his prize free-agent from last year so soon.
Wondering if Dorial Green-Beckham will be there.........Or you guys thinking someone will jump on him in the 1st round

He threw a woman down a flight of stairs. That alone will drop him, as it should, and I want no part of him on the Jags.

I couldn't agree more. And I think the Blackmon experience might come into it too. They won't want another player who might spend large parts of his career suspended (albeit for very different reasons)
