This thread escalated quickly lol.... Anyways I think the 9ers might have missed out on this hiring. Good luck to them tho. As well as Gase in the future.

While Adam Gase didn't get the 49ers jHC ob,   at least at present he's in the mix for the Broncos HC job.   Gase had an interview with John Elway.   If Elway decides to put major weight in what Peyton Manning prefers,   Gase would have a good chance at landing the Broncos HC job.

My guess is Gase lost out on the 49ers HC job for two reasons:

1.   He doesn't seem to be a good match with the ultra mobile Colin Kaepernick.

2.   He doesn't have any HC experience.   Being that the 49ers ownership expects the team to be a Super Bowl contender in the 2015 season,   the lack of any HC experience is significant.

John Elway said Peyton Manning will be involved in the process. Meanwhile Manning is selling Adam Gase to other teams who need new head coaches.

The 49ers expect too much if they think a rookie head coach (which Jim Tomsula is) can go to the Super Bowl. Jim Harbaugh was the exception, not the rule.

How involved Peyton Manning will be involved in the process is a key question from my perspective.

The late Don McCafferty won a Super Bowl as a rookie NFL HC.   Jim Caldwell went to the Super Bowl as a rookie NFL HC.

As for Jim Harbaugh,  it wasn't until his 2nd season as 49ers HC that he got to the Super Bowl.

Time will tell whether the 49ers Super Bowl expectations are realistic or not.   But they are at least going with a HC with professional football HC experience,  even if it's not NFL HC experience.
Wow I had no idea any rookie head coaches went to the Super Bowl. I just knew Jim Harbaugh almost did it.

With Justin Smith apparently retiring and some other guys leaving for free agency, it will not be easy to get back there, especially with a new coaching staff.

I thought of another rookie NFL HC that went to the Super Bowl:  Red Miller.  That was the season that the ' Orange Crush'  nickname for the Broncos Defense took off.

Because of the 49ers choice of HC,   I think there's a better than even chance that Justin Smith will play at least one more season.

Regardless,  it's not going to be easy for the 49ers to reach the Super Bowl.  Especially,  in a high caliber division.   Yet,  the expectations of 49ers ownership are very high.
